The hotel is not too far from the Masjid Jamek metro stop with easy access to Chinatown & the Central Market.
The lobby of the hotel looks quite nice but the toilets were down a corridor & looked pretty grotty. We could leave our luggage in storage but there is no security as the door isn't locked & anyone can access the luggage room.
There was often just one staff at reception so it was often a long wait if you needed to speak to someone. The lifts are pretty slow too.
When we just arrived, there was a guest complaining about their room so we didn't have high hopes about its quality.
As we had two separate bookings, we had emailed the hotel in advance to merge them so we didn't have to change rooms. This was not done, of course, so while we could stay in the same room, the admin related to the tourism tax had to be done again the next day & the 50 RM deposit transferred to the next day.
The room itself was spacious but workmanship was poor & cleanliness wasn't the best. There was a stain on the toilet which hadn't been cleaned, dust on the surfaces & cupboards, stains on the the bed sheets, a shaky tap at the sink, etc, etc. Only one roll of toilet paper was provided, and one soap, one bottle of shower gel & one bottle of shampoo.
The mattress was comfortable & the pillows were quite thick & soft. We didn't have a bad night's sleep but there was quite alot of slamming of doors in the middle of the night the first night we were there.
We asked for more toilet paper & toiletries the morning of the second day & yet no one had cleaned the room & therefore the items we requested were not replenished. We phoned the reception when we realised this & it was a long wait so we had to phone again to get the things brought to us. Housekeeping is clearly not the strength of the hotel.
Breakfast starts at 7.30am & you get a selection of cooked food - we had fried rice, kuay teow/ bee hoon, eggs, sausages, curry puffs/ veggie patties, beans during our stay. There is bread & a toaster, butter & jam, 2 kinds of fruit a day (we had pineapple, melon, apple & watermelon during our stay), cornflakes, tea, coffee & cordial (mango/ orange).
Breakfast was probably one of the positives of the hotel. The food was pretty decent & you can get your fill before starting the day.
All in all, the stay at Wyndham was pretty average. As a chain, you expect there to be minimum standards for the hotel but it was lacking in a number of areas. There are quite a few hotels at the same price point, so best to shop around! It's not a hotel we will rush to return to anytime soon.
My room was spacious and clean, which overlooked the Maybank Tower. I am glad the toilet comes with a spray bidet with a proper door and lock (not the translucent kind).
Breakfast is so-so. My advice is to come after 730am when the tour groups are done with their breakfast. Internet access is reasonably good.
The front desk is satisfactory ok. Definitely, there's a room for improvement for staffing. Perhaps, minimize chit-chatting when attending to guests. Need more warmth and smile.
Clean and modern hotel, reception staff very good and helpful. The location is good, close to Chinatown (5 minutes walk) and also just 10 minutes or so walk from the food street of Jalan Alor.
Good value.
I am a member of Wyndham, but nobody asked me if I was which should be the standard of Wyndham group.
The Bad: Very spotty wifi. Did not work most of the time I was there. I mentioned to hotel and they said they would do something but nothing was done. Perhaps it was my room locaiton but still bad experience nonetheless. Good Wifi is a must these days!
One Staff member was unprofessional, condescending and rude. Looked at me from a distance with a smirky grin. He also presented himself and the hotel badly exposing full arm tattoos. He should work in the cooking area away from Customers. Then again, who knows what he would do with the food. Watch out for him. He is the rude and unhappy looking one with arm tattoos!
