The hotel is safe and quiet. The whole place feels run-down and needs some maintenance. I liked that there were two beds and a sleeping mattress in the room. The shower turned off several times while showering and the sink didn't drain. The room smelled fine and had AC. There was a refrigerator!! Nice! The place needs a good cleaning.

Stayed 1 night, booked through TA, room with window 20 Pounds. All staff I met (reception, restaurant, security) all very welcoming and professional. No problems with room except a little dark so had to open curtains and use my phone flashlight to set security box located within cupboard!

This hotel has a plain appearance, both outside and inside, but actually works well. I have only stayed once, but I got a cheery check-in, there is a lift to reach the upper floors and the room was certainly big enough. Nice big bed, fair-sized bathroom, nice towels, aircon and a fan, fridge, kettle and cups, plenty of storage space, room safe, wifi that works. My room had a table top which functioned well as a desk, with chair and arm-chair. Room cleaning was good. The only glitch was working out how to get hot water from the shower – the heater switch was not at all obvious. The bar/eatery on the ground floor is Aussie themed, as the hotel name would suggest. So proper grub and cold beer available, served with a smile. It seems popular with local old expats who come to chat, play pool or watch rugby on the big TV. But it was never crowded during my stay, just relaxing. In the evening there are sometimes ladies who will chat with you if you wish. A plus is the shuttle bus they run daily to Angeles and Subic. Easy, cheap, clean transport. Another plus is having the 7/11 store next door. Location is OK, not far to the lovely Rizal Park, to Robinsons Mall or to the nightlife. But to reach these one has to walk past many street dwellers, which is off-putting or heart-breaking depending on your outlook.

I didn’t stay here but I popped past for a few beers. The staff are all very lovely and there seemed to be a few bar flies that obviously are regulars and were very pleasant to have a few chats. Can’t comment on the rooms but the bar was good

First and last time I stayed there. Small VERY SMELLY room, no windows, paper thin bedsheet, the mattress shining through except in the places that are stained. The pillow smelling the hair of thousands of precious guests. Downstairs the sign says "refurbished rooms", hmmmm, would be interesting in which year. The walls have been white at one point in time, now they have scratches and dents all over. The aircon has only one level of strength, on or off. Bathroom is quite OK. Restaurant and Bar downstairs is a plus.

Ive stayed at this Hotel 4 times now and its my first port of call when in Manila, great little hotel in a very good location, close to Robinson Mall and only about a 150 - 200 peso taxi ride to MOA, down stairs there is a great little bar with cold beer, friendly staff and a pool table, rooms are a bit dated but for the price I'm not complaining, so next time your in Manila give it a go and come see Angel and the rest of the staff and enjoy the hospitality of the Southern cross Hotel

This hotel is old but clean, I stayed here twice (rooms 403 & 404) both were clean, quiet, with comfortable bed, 2 pillows, 2 towels, & bed sheets only, to get blanket must pay 100 piso (one time), toiletries, soap, cups, mini refrigerator, kettle, telephone ,TV with 65 channels, fan, AC and safety box. Room 403 has tiny window, room 404 has no window but I like it because I like dark room to sleep. The elevator works good, the Bar with pool table (close at 24:00 hrs.) I like the location and their shuttle bus (Manila - Angeles - Subic) Good staff but no receptionist after midnight, the guard will take care of everything.

I've been staying at the Southern Cross Hotel since 2008 over eight stays now. The staff are always extra friendly, helpful and somehow remember my name. Rooms are always clean and presentable and have been recently modernised with shower components and in room televisions. Although there is no longer a pick up or drop off option at the Airport, this is not a serious issue as there is now an air-conditioned UBE coach from each terminal @ P150 to Robinsons Mall where a taxi can take you to the Hotel for P50, just allow an hour for travel time either way. The meals are always tasty, well priced and a good serving size. There are so many places to see in this part of Manila, many within walking distance and if a taxi is required thus very cheap. M.H. del Pilar st. is a major jeepney route towards Baclaran passing near, though not to the Mall of Asia (hail a taxi on EDSA) and the return route towards Divisoria is along Mabini st, so not too scary an introduction to local jeepney travel, getting off one block over and using either Antonio Flores st or United Nations Ave to get back. Yes I'll be back for it's friendliness and value for money.
