This once grand hotel is in desperate need of a new caretaker. The rooms are dated, the shower was dripping, the electrical outlets fell out of the wall, the hallways are musty smelling. BUT....the breakfast food was delicious, very well displayed, and the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent for my purposes, but the overall...

Definitely not a resort, it is just a dated hotel that needs many improvements including some training and qualification of the front desk staff, which could be, at least, polite and helpful. The intense musty smell in the room, lack of towels in bathroom, poor convenience items in room, billing error at checkout and others, were all part of my...

Not really sure where to start with reviewing this hotel. It's both really good, and really bad. Our first visit was just prior to an Amazon cruise. The check in was really quick and easy, even though we had arrived just after check in opened and there were several people at the desk. I was expecting, from some of the...

Would agree with a number of previous reviews. Hotel in great position especially if you are on a short stay, overlooking the river and short walk from the beach. Bedrooms are spacious and reception/bar area large, light and welcoming. Quite old fashioned corridors leading to rooms but quite nice looking. Rooms though look a little tired, worst example though is...

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Rooms damp to wet, beds disgusting, no blanket, aircon out of control freezing, one glass only in our room, no wine at bar, service non existent and food inedible. We all came down with the flu after only one night in this awful hotel !! Don't stay here !!

Huge hotel with many wings around an enormous concrete pool. Tourist groups use the Tropical as a jump point to explore the Amazon. Foreign businesses use it for ex-pat staff visiting the many foreign factories in the Manaus Free Trade Zone. Hotel is clean. Staff is friendly enough but the atmosphere is cold. Food is dull and institutional.

We enjoyed the visit to the area. We arrived very late at night and slept in and missed breakfast which finished at 10am. I rang reception at 10.20am to see if we could get a cup of tea and toast and they said we were too late. We wandered around and noticed the restaurant was open (approx. 10.30 am) Explained...

This old hotel is located right on the Black River (Rio Negro in Portuguese), one of the many river tributaries that flows into the Amazon...well kinda. See, the Rio Negro actually "meets" the Amazon River but doesn't completely mix because of a variety of factors. It makes for a cool day excursion to go see it by boat from the...

As an Ecoresort, its location on the banks of the Rio Negro is magnificent and its grounds and its attractions ( a mini zoo, a large swiming pool, spacious gardens, a close by sandy beach) could not be better. As a hotel it is a shame. Large rooms and spacious bathrooms, but their condition and maintainace are simply bad. Breakfast...
