The hostel is in a great, central location of the historic center of Salvador. Beautiful architecture surrounding the streets of the hostel so lovely to walk around in although relatively quiet. Some interesting cultural music performances tho. Hostel could use a cleaning but otherwise chilled out and very friendly, helpful staff.

I stayed twice with my 2 daughters in Nega Maluca many years ago. The first time was in 2005 and the second time was in 2007. In 2005 we only stayed for 2 nights in a dormitory but in 2007 we stayed for 5 nights in a triple room with private bath. I loved the location and atmosphere of NM,...

Hey Susan, Tks for your great review. Yes, I'm still the proud owner of the Nega.....:-)) Sorry to hear about your daughters bad being "fished" from the windows. it sucks. If only this people would put half the energy they put into fishing others people bags into fishing real fish, their belly would be much fuller...... Next time you come...

Location is perfect and right in Pelhourino historic centre, a few minutes walk to restaurants, live music and bus stops to nearby beaches and other neighbourhoods. We were in a dorm but got upgraded to a private room at a discount by the owner Diego because the place was quiet. The rooms are basic and not the cleanest but have...

Nega Maluca was our first hostel experience in Brazil. The location is nearby the citycenter of Salvador - Pelourinho. It was a good host. The boy spoke only Portuguese. The breakfast was very good. Fruit, bread, cake, suco, café, ... We could take our breakfast outside what was very nice. The plumbing was a bummer. The rooms were big but...

We spend one night in the hostel. 1. the rooms are damp, even the pillows were smelly 2. quite far from the centre of Pelourinho 3. pay R$3/night more and you can stay in the heart of Pelourinho and enjoy it's nighlife 4. no hot water in the showers.

This place is all about the social atmosphere, not necessarily the facilities. The dorms are perfectly decent. They don't have big lockers for your bag but do have small ones for valuables. The free breakfast is a mixed bag but can be very good if there's pancakes. The location is pretty good, close to shops, restaurants and the centre of...

Nega maluca is a better option for travelers who want to be close to music venues and historic places in the pelourinho without the noise and grunginess of the pelourinho. The terrace is great for chilling out with other guests, the staff or the hostel's cat and dog. There's a great little market around the corner. You can catch a...

Location near Pelourinho is great. I felt safe the entire time. Staff (English, Portuguese, Spanish) were exceptionally friendly helping plan trips to Project Tamar and Morro de São Paulo. Wifi average. Breakfast good. Bathrooms average with good water pressure in the showers.

Definitely the best Guesthouse/Hostel in Salvador! Why? Because of the lovely staff, they are just amazing. They'll give you the best tips to make your trip in Salvador and surroundings unique!!! They know the best places in town and the places to be in every single day. We went together to the Barra beach and had a great time. They...

Just left after 9 nights. Diego the manager was great. A bit expensive for what it is over the carnaval. Great crew, not hot water, wifi worked well but only in the lobby, great breakfast. I just hope that for the price, the crew could arrange more activities ie: city tour/nightclubs but overall fun stay!
