Magic place! Many outdoor activities, great place for families with kids. They can play, run around, see many different animals and trees. Very good food, delicious beer and cozy restaurant. Super friendly staff! Just great!
Bernardo Goes above and beyond to make sure all of his guests are happy and comfortable! Thank you so much for everything! The food, the bedroom, the live music, it was all perfect! We will be coming back for sure!!!
We spent 3 wonderful nights here in a delightful,l comfortable cottage set amidst the beautiful rain forest. Our host, Bernardo Lacombe who is a member of the family who own the pousada is more than a genial host. Bernardo is a chef par excellence, an excellent bird guide and an amazing drum player! The pousada is truly luxurious with the restaurant being the most romantic one we have had the pleasure to dine during our time in Brazil. Bernardo's menu is extensive using local quality ingredients. He produces fabulous meals. Bernardo took us birding along the trails he has made through the forest surrounding the pousada. Bernardo is an expert in finding birds and we saw endemic species amongst a plethora of others. We were fortunate that on one evening Bernardo gave us a rendition of his drumming skills, gosh it really was a super experience. The pousada caters not just for birdwatchers but for anyone who wishes to have complete relaxation in amazing surroundings or those who wish to play sports, archery, swim, play snooker/billiards, take an art course, volley ball, walking, putting, reading or just chilling. The pousada is within a short travelling distance to the historic city of Petropolis. Pousada Paraiso is truly a touch of luxury in paradise.…
Very good place to go and relax for a couple of days the staff is great and friendly, the property is clean and in the middle of the nature, so you will be in the middle of birds, lezards, and other squirrels there are different activities, in addition to the natural pond, such as bow&arrow, volley ball, tennis, rappel etc the room with spa is ideal after a long day of travel to relax love the journey there
You will feel like you are a guest on a good family home. Everybody makes you feel welcome since you arrive. You may even have some trouble finding the check-in desk. That's because that isn't one! Just ask somebody on the living room were the owners are, and they are going to help you. But don't make a mistake, probably everybody on the living room are also a guest. The food is simple but amazing, since the breakfast until dinner. The inn is hard to get, you need to go offroad a little, but it is worth it! Go and relax!
Imagine a Paradise (Paraíso) where a single family takes care of everything. Make your dreams sweet with the natural cascade symphony. This Paradise higher than the thousand meter mark is close to the heaven, just waiting for you. And with the advantage you've not to wait til your last day... Ask for Borracha. Not Obama, not Lula, he is the Man.
Let me just make a quick overview if you ever decide to visit this wonderful place. Transportation: Venture and take public transportation. I stayed in Ipanema for a couple of days, then took a cab to the bus station before heading to Petropolis. Not many people speak English but it is way cheaper than taking a cab all the way to the Pousada. Renting a car may be an option but drivers tend to be a bit aggressive compare to the US. Make sure you let Mariana know. She will be able to get you a cab from the bus station in Petropolis. I took a regular cab and it was double the price. Food: Breakfast is included with your reservation. They have a good variarity and it is pretty good. Lunch and dinner are not included but you are better off eating at the pousada since there are not nearby restaurants or grocery stores. Brazilians prefer their meals full of flavor. It may be too salty or too sweet for your taste. I found this to be true in the city as well. Dinner at their little restaurant is a very pleasant experience. Cabins: The little cabins are comfortable and private. Some have jacuzzis, a little chimney, and a great view. Be aware that you will be staying very close to the mountains and forest. Therefore, there will be a lot of insects around. You shouldn't mind. It is perfectly normal and expected. What to do: They have hiking trails, birdwatching tour, natural swimming pool, river, tennis court, and lots of nature. I went solo since I was looking for a secluded place to relax, and it worked out perfectly. Management and staff: They are just excellent. They always have a great smile when you approach them. Mariana and her husband speak English fluently, and I did not experience any communication problems. Overall, I had a great experience at Pousada Paraiso. If you ever visit Rio and want to get away from its hectic touristic areas, Pousada Paraiso is the place to be.…
If you don't, then Pousada Paraíso is the closest thing you can have to this. The place is amazing, fantastically integrated in the local topography, full of nice things to do, from a creative and delicious natural swimming pool, to archery and mini-golf. Excellent for couples, with or without children but also for people just looking for a escape of the busy city life. By the way, it should be considered some sort of Bed and Breakfast because the owners are always there to show you the place, discuss birdwatching (many, many birds to watch), or just have nice dinner conversations. Loved it. PS: when I say Fitness Center I mean all the options around nature, ok. Much better than Fitness Center, by the way!
Scattered around Rio de Janeiro in a 2-3 radius there are loads of pousadas that claim tranquility and hiking trails and charm - and so often are bitterly disappointing. The Paraiso massively exceeded our expectations. Lovely setting, amazing natural rock pool, tons of activities for the kids (archery, minigolf, pingpong etc) but discreet so it never felt like Disneyland, great hiking trails right there on the property and lovely waterfalls to swim in. Comfortable, clean rooms. Lovely staff. The food was something of a disappointment but the setting was so nice we just had more wine and didn't worry too much. We will definitely return.
