If you are on your own and are looking for friends to travel with or drink with, this is your spot!!! I wish I would've gone here sooner and used them instead of Airbnb! I immediately made friends with the workers and the people living there. Some had been there for months, others for days. We all drank and went...

I flew from Dubai to Rio to meet my posh lawyer friend who was taking a year out to travel South America and other exciting places across the globe. We met in Rio and she planned the whole two weeks accommodation wise. I am not a backpacker at all - have never done it in my life, but rocked up...

This was a fantastic hostel, a great nightlife from here and the staff are extremely friendly. I would say that the staff are the most friendly from over 20 hostels I have stayed in across Europe and South America! They very kindly let me use a computer behind the desk to watch a GAA sporting event back home and even...

The title pretty much sums it up. I stayed at Books for a week and a half and I could easily have spend many months here. The hostel is so welcoming especially the staff who make you feel part of a family. I stayed here 11 days and I have made so many friends, many of whom I will (and...

This is a party hostel, be warned, people. It means loud music, loudly talking are on for 24 hours, seriously, especially on weekends. Week nights they turned off the music after 12am, but they can't shut up the party animals. It's good atmosphere only if you are one of this kind. Those guys are not normal tourists. Totally don't understand...

I've stayed in hostels before in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, but Books is the best experience that I've had. The staff are fantastic, the location is perfect, and transport to the beaches and other tourist sites are very easy. Staff are always on hand to help. As a solo traveller I felt very safe here and in the surrounding areas....

First off, this is a party hostel that attracts a young crowd. I actually felt like i was back in college, staying at a dorm and partying with friends all night. having said that, it's not for everyone. If you want peace and quiet and if you think you are too old for stuff like that, I advise you to...

I can't say enough good things about this place. Great breakfast, party atmosphere, good common areas, a kitchen and good bar! The hostel owner is definitely what makes this place what it is! He makes a huge effort to learn your name, he chats to everyone and is so helpful. Thankyou for a great time in Lapa, Felipe.

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
