This hostel is terrible. The staff is not good, reception is dark and dirty, so are the rooms. Everything is old and incredible dirty, the bathroom is terrible, I stayed just a night over there and I thought about not taking a shower, the conditions are terrible. You have a huge hill and stair case to get in the hostel.... More

This hostel is filthy. There is no hostel atmosphere. The staff are uninterested. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We stayed here for 6 nights during the Olympics at the astronomical cost of $1000! We were struggling to find anywhere cheaper as everywhere in Rio was booked up and prices were being hiked. We decided to chose this hostel... More

Stayed at this hostel during the olympics. This hostel is only to bed selected in its rates, because the facilities are beneath all standards. Moldy beds, bathrooms and the grounds are shared with a workshop. The kitchen and common rooms are located in a barn. Only stay here if you're looking for a cheap hostel.

This is in my opinion the true definition of a back-packing hostel. This place is just bare-bones with nothing out of the ordinary. You have guests (sorry but it is true) that because they are on holiday as back-packers they can loosen their belts so to speak. The kitchen area is just a collective chaotic mess with even your food... More

I think this place is terrible. The rooms were very dirty, the bathrooms did not have doors; to get to the 'nice rooms' you have to pretty much climb the hill using the horrible stairs they have with no light at night for like 4 minutes. It does not have parking. The only good thing is the view and the... More

It would be worth it to pay a little more for somewhere better. The rooms and common areas were "clean" enough, but the lower men's bathroom was filthy. We had a private room and we paid 20 BRL/night extra for airco. Airco is only for the nights and you can't controle the airco yourself. I really did love the monkeys... More

The hostel is located on the side of a mountain and has a fantastic view of Christo from the balcony. The staff here were so friendly and welcoming that after our first stay we came back for another week. Good location, facilities weren´t perfect but would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Rio! The monkeys that come for... More

We stayed here from Christmas Day to just after New Year's Eve. We found the staff friendly, the bathrooms clean and the room was a decent size. However, with only a fan blowing the hot air around, it would get unbearable hot. The fan didn't even have a cover on it, it was so old. The bed sinks like crazy... More

Disgusting place. The breakfast was not edible (and I have a solid stomach), the management photos are all lies, there's nobody useful on site and, worst of all, they would not return money owed to us. We booked a special room and when we arrived we were placed in another. They didn't pay us the difference, despite their lip service.... More

Crowded dirty rooms, also dirty bed lining. We end up having a great time as the staff took good care of us and showed us the city around, but the time of getting to bed was always a nightmare. No hot water, poor breakfast. Location is good and views as well. It is quite cheap, but even paying a low... More

Staying in Botafogo

Neighbourhood Profile
Botafogo
In recent years, Botafogo has become one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Rio. It hosts many modern restaurants with contemporary food and many venues to listen to rock and electronic music. Its numerous bars and pubs make this area a great choice for anyone interested in a great nightlife experience - in fact, some bars in the area are open all night. Casa Daros, an art museum that showcases amazing artists from Latin America, is a must see located in a historical building in Botafogo.
