Casa legre was amazing! The staff were extremely helpful. Rio de Janeiro was the first stop on our trip and we were feeling quite nervous but casa legre soon helped us get over that by arranging an airport pickup for us and checking if we had any dietary requirements for breakfast (which was the best breakfast I've ever had on... We stayed 2 nights in Casalegre and we simply LOVED it! Perfectly located in the heart of Santa Teresa, the pousada is nicely decorated, very artsy and colourful! The room was perfect, and the breakfast was definitely the best we had in Brazil!! Daniel is amazing, super friendly and eager to make you feel at home. He spent a lot... More

I stayed at Casalegre Art Villa for 4 nights during last September and really enjoyed myself. Although I didn't spend much time in the hostel other than in the mornings and late at night to rest, it met my expectations. I would say the highlights of this hostel are its breakfast with real Brazilian coffee (not instant-coffee!) , fresh orange... More

Everyone we knew who had been to Rio said that we should stay in Copacabana or Ipanema. They said they were very safe ares. When we Googled them we realised that it wasn't for us. We like staying in more authentic places with a bit more character and after some research decided on the Santa Teresa district. We liked the... More

Super overpriced! At a price of a 3-4 stars hotel with a pool you're getting a room with shared bathroom. It's not that the place was bad, but as one who traveled 4 months in South America, I slept in similar quality places at less than 1/2 price. Staff are very friendly and speak perfect English. The place itself looks... More

We stayed at Casalegre during the Olympics and really enjoyed our time with our hosts. Though we spent most of our time traveling around Rio and not at Casalegre, all of their recommendations were excellent. Breakfast was not extensive but was delicious, with amazing fresh fruit and great cheese bread. The nearby are is equally delightful with some good restaurants.... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
