We were initially allocated a room on level 8 and it looked like any standard 3 star hotel room anywhere in the world. After reviewing the hotel website, we requested a change to level 3, which we loved. It was much more our style and more what we expected from a boutique design hotel. The hotel were very helpful with...

I stayed here on a recomendation from some Brazilian work colleagues in Sao Paolo that always stay here when they visit Rio. I booked two rooms as we were a family of 4. My kids are 12 and 14. The hotel is small with basic additional facilities; personally ideal for a sightseeing / beach vacation. Rooms were obviously a little...

The hotel was decent, but the room wasn't near as nice as the photos on their website would have you believe. Great location though, and the service was fine. The main problem I had was that I made a few short calls using the long distance service posted on the room telephone. The rates aren't listed, which should have been...

Stayed two nights at Portinari as I had read some good reviews of the hotel. Sadly the reviews had to be as out of date as the Hotel itself... I was later told by my Rio based travel agency that they had stopped to book this hotel as they did got a lot of complaints about it (why did they...

We tried a cheaper hotel not far from the Portinari and were so dissapointed we decided to upgrade. The Portinari was a great place to stay, one block from the beach. The room we had was not as 'design' as we might of thought but was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was great, on the top floor. The...

I stayed at Portinari in August 2004 and had a good impression, that's why I'd like to visit it again. Unfortunately, the hotel is more and more decadent. From the reservation procedures to the little details (towels really old!), everything reveals that the once "first design hotel in Rio" is just an overpriced 3 stars accomodation. I had reserved a...

We stayed at the Portinari for 3 nights early november, the weather was hot and damp, the first thing you notice is that the aircon is very weak and you have to let a key card at the room switch otherwise it will turn off when you leave the room, then you will find a real oven when you return...

I was a little disappointed by this hotel at the end of a two week trip around Brazil. The rooms are a reasonable size and clean but abit basic. Some of the finer detailing was poor due to a less than acceptable standard of workmanship. We had a room on the 12th floor but could still hear the traffic noise...

Excellent Hotel. Rooms and bathrooms very nicely appointed and new. Excellent breakfast and very helpful english speaking reception staff. Some people have commented that it has a poor location but we really liked the neighbourhood as we felt it was safer than other parts of Copacabana which were more touristy and therefore more expensive and more dangerous. It's only 50m...

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
