Well we must have missed something. Our private room was right by the kitchen and noisy as he'll. Not to mention the tv at night as well. The shower was a joke the water was either really cold or too hot to stand under. Nowhere in between. No air con in the room. The breakfast is a joke. Toast and...

We stayed here for 5 nights, we had only booked for 3 and loved the hostel so much we decided to stay longer. Staff are very helpful and friendly and it has a real nice atmosphere to hang out in. Our room was great, nice double bed and a hammock, great views over Rio. Breakfast was good, nice big kitchens...

Rio Hostel is located in the old bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa which is high up on the hill and offers good views of the city centre. The hostel is on the main bus route and is within walking distance (2km) of the metro. The climb up to the hostel entrance is very steep and has numerous stairs which can...

I arrived in RIo and was picked up from the airport by one of the staff. Pleasant enough. Got to the hotel (not ideal if you are carrying a suitcase weighing 28kg to haul up a steep flight of stairs). The chauffeur kindly carried my luggage, risking cardiac arrest. There was noone at reception to show me to my room...

I named this review after a song (by Randy Crawford)---didn't really get the blues there! The location is ideal for the quirky, bohemian quarter of Santa Teresa with its "bonde" open tram rumbling outside the doorway. With two patios and a bar, the setting is excellent for meeting other travellers and there is a selection of accommodation including that rarity,...

For the price we thought that the rooms were very tired and non too clean. On the plus side, the staff were very helpful and it was a great location at the top of Santa Teresa. We did have good views from our room - but it was very noisy.

This hostel has the best location for those who are want to explore Lapa (nightlife) and Santa Teresa (colonial charm) because it is right between the two neighborhoods, within easy walking distance of each. The hostel is a sprawling complex, with lots of nooks with charm and architectural flair where you can relax alone or with someone special. The all-you-can-eat...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
