From the moment we checked in, we felt like we were in a cosy family hotel. Staff were extremely attentive. The room was on the small size (when you're travelling with 2 big bags & there is not a lot of space in the room) but the bathroom was excellent. We were on the 7th floor - great view to...

The support of the team here is amazing, which compensates for the tiny pool. Breakfast was awesome with tropical fruit adding to the tasty food. Stayed an extra half a day for extra but the early check in was for free.

We stayed here the week after the Olympics and had a very pleasant time because of the friendly staff. The rooms are basic but very clean and breakfast was nice too with fresh fruits everyday. We asked the reception several times for dinner recommendations and all of them were superb. Well located (at one end of Copacabana beach) and good...

The accommodations were great, neat, clean and modern. The staff was so helpful and friendly, even when we had lots of questions. We were in town for the Olympics and they were great hosts! We highly recommend staying here if you need to visit Rio. I would definitely stay here again.

Small hotel of a chain in the area. Rooms are small and basic. Roof top pool is a nice bar and a small pool. The check in is always busy. The breakfast is basic and in a small room. The hotel is however located 2 minutes from copa cabana and it's location is great.

I only stayed 2 nights here. Less than a block to the beach at Post 5. It is pretty far down Copa near Ipa. About a 10min walk to the metro station. There's a bank and grocery store on the corner so pretty convenient. The room wasnt huge, but fine for one person. The room was clean, hardwood type flooring...

A small but exceptionally clean and welcoming hotel. We stayed for 15 days in July 2016. Our room was described as being a 'Luxury Room' and while the bed was comfortable, sadly that's where comfort ended. The only chair was a dining chair. Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

I've just recently booked up a holiday for Rio next March at the Windsor Martinique having wanted to visit for many years. Now I've been well aware of the problems with crime in the favellas and had no intention of visiting them. It is disturbing though that I've heard media reports of a sharp rise in tourist muggings and gangs of youths 'dragnetting' beach areas like Copacabana and Ipanema. Buses from poor areas being stopped at roadblocks before entering the tourist zones and vigilante reprisals. This all sounds pretty awful now frankly

We are a couple in our 50s and 60s and are pasty skinned Scots hardly likely to pass for locals however hard we try to look like them. We will be staying at the Windsor Martinique hotel on the south end of Copacabana and I notice on google earth that there is a favella barely 400 yards away from us on a steep hill . I would very interested to hear of anyones recent experiences in this area? We would also like to go out at night for dinner but this is a definite no no according to the comments I've read elsewhere on the forum here.

The more I read here the more I'm dreading going and of telling my other half what I've discovered because this was my idea in the first place ! Brazil will be our 50th country and Rio one of the 200+ cities we have visited including in many third world countries too. I'm a seasoned traveller but I cannot honestly say I've been quite as apprehensive about going to anywhere before having read right through this long thread and the many attached reports.

This is the last thing you want to know before going on holiday is that you will be a target :(
