I stayed several days in this hotel and every thing was perfect..breakfast, cleaniness, shower.. it was an excellent price/ quality combination. What could be improved is old (fashioned) furniture in the room. Sitting on the chair to do some computing..hurt my butt within five minutes because of the old chair. As said in other reviews..the rooms are not superbig.. For...

This hotel is brilliantly located half a block from Copacabana beach and steps away from Ipanema beach. The metro is a five minute walk and buses are virtually on the doorstep, just around the corner. The staff, Geovana in particular, could not be more helpful, suggesting places to go, producing maps and directions for the places you've already identified, and...

Location is prime, steps away from Copacabana beach and close to Ipanema my preferred beach. Staff were professional and helpful, allowing me a late check out and arranging an airport shuttle. Room was clean and spacious with a comfy bed. I had no choice but to book a room with street view which would be my only complaint - you...

A well positioned hotel half a block from Copacabana beach. Our room was comfortable with flat screen TV and fridge (mini bar). The staff were helpful and service was good apart from over attentive waiters hovering at the buffet breakfast. There was no iron and ironing board available. The hotel was a good surprise for me. The hotel's location is excellent, 2 minutes from Copacabana evening there are plenty of choices for restaurants to eat and drink.3 minutes to the Metro station. Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

I've just recently booked up a holiday for Rio next March at the Windsor Martinique having wanted to visit for many years. Now I've been well aware of the problems with crime in the favellas and had no intention of visiting them. It is disturbing though that I've heard media reports of a sharp rise in tourist muggings and gangs of youths 'dragnetting' beach areas like Copacabana and Ipanema. Buses from poor areas being stopped at roadblocks before entering the tourist zones and vigilante reprisals. This all sounds pretty awful now frankly

We are a couple in our 50s and 60s and are pasty skinned Scots hardly likely to pass for locals however hard we try to look like them. We will be staying at the Windsor Martinique hotel on the south end of Copacabana and I notice on google earth that there is a favella barely 400 yards away from us on a steep hill . I would very interested to hear of anyones recent experiences in this area? We would also like to go out at night for dinner but this is a definite no no according to the comments I've read elsewhere on the forum here.

The more I read here the more I'm dreading going and of telling my other half what I've discovered because this was my idea in the first place ! Brazil will be our 50th country and Rio one of the 200+ cities we have visited including in many third world countries too. I'm a seasoned traveller but I cannot honestly say I've been quite as apprehensive about going to anywhere before having read right through this long thread and the many attached reports.

This is the last thing you want to know before going on holiday is that you will be a target :(
