Not a great experience but the bed was okay and the room was clean. Very few staff members could speak English, they weren't able to answer some of the most obvious questions a tourist would have . . . Asked where the closest ATM was and they sent me on a long walk down the street when, as I later...

The service was bad, the receptionist at check in greeted me with bitterness and sarcasm. On the last day I requested that woke me at 4:00 AM, the front desk simply forgot almost lose my flight. Many machine noises upstairs on Saturday afternoon.

The Ibis Centro is good if you need to be close to the very center of the historical Rio de Janeiro. It has a good price for Rio high standards. It is clean and very functional for a business trip and a short sight-seeing travel week,

The hotel is well-located (close to the Carioca subway station and many bus lines) and the services are pretty good. There is also a taxi station right in front of the hotel. The quality of the meals and the breakfast is excellent, and the majority of the staff members are available to help you everytime you need. The exception was...

Just to list a few problems: The room smelled like cigarettes, the toilet was leaking, the room next to us was noisy, the furniture was worn out and dirty, as were the walls. On top of that, the blanket had not been washed and the service was a disaster. The employees were with such a bad temper that it seemed...

Good, but WiFi did no work fine. I had to go down stairs in order to work with my lap top. This is one type of problem that makes difference. Some times it did work, most of the time it did not work. Hope things get better.

Great for the price (provided you don't go to Rio for carnival - where the price is cranked up - but that is the case across the city!) Basic room and very basic bed. Large TV - which we didn't use very much. Good wifi. Breakfast was very standard - nothing special - and we were disappointed to learn this...

Hotel was OK. Staff allowed me early check in and late check out which was good as I forgot to ask while booking. Room was standard size and had all of the expected amenities. Location is great for the Carnival season but is a bit far from the Vopacobana (15 min and $5 via taxi). Price was a bit higher...

We do thank your words about our hotel. It is really important to us! We understand how embarrassing security measures can be, and how boring they really are when guests are busy and willing to get out for the many parties that take place in Rio while Carnival. However, those measures are necessary in order to protect our guests, our...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
