I stayed at Casa 579 with my friends. The rooms were nice and spacious. The views from the terrace were excellent and also a nice place to relax. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast was amazing with a great selection of fresh fruit! I loved the location and the whole atmosphere. Thank you Casa 579 for a great...

I came to 579 at the beginning of February, then came back at the end, and once more in March! I was traveling between Argentina and Brazil, and found myself returning to Rio over and over again. The house is so nice I couldnt resist the view and the vibe.... Individual comfy beds (no bunks!!!), amazing roof terrace, the nicest...

My plans didn't go as planned and I was left in Rio for a week alone. I've traveled alone, I know how to work it BUT I was very fortunate to stumble upon Casa 579 with Teresa and her crew. They took great care of me. They kept me informed, and invited me out whenever someone cool was going on....

Casa 579 is a marvelous hostel! We were attracted by the website photos of the amazing view, and this did not disappoint us! There is a great roof terrace, which offers a view over the green mountains all the way to the Christ the Redeemer statue. Good breakfast, comfortable and spacious living room, nice beds (no bunk beds) which were...

Admit we booked late but were delighted to find this proprietor operated business. ( My view of sleep quality was altered by the carnaval taking place overnight so I slept during day.) Teresa goes to endless trouble to ensure all her guests have a memorable stay. The hotel attracts people of a similar mindset with the result that many of...

Coffee, juices, fresh pineapple, mango, ham, cheese, eggs, breads and the crispiest rolls this side of Hanoi. Not a bad way to start the day but it seems pretty much par for the course at the Casa 579 . . . Its almost a nonsense to call this place a hostel or a B&B - it looks like and feels...

Casa 579 is located in Santa Teresa and is off the beaten path. If you are looking to stay with the masses of tourists in Ipanema beach, this may not be for you. But if you are looking for a more unique and authentic experience of Rio, this is a fantastic option. My husband and I stayed at Casa 579...

A little further away from the main touristy areas, this hostel provides arguably the best views in Rio. The upstairs deck is excellent for relaxing and if you were looking to save money by relaxing at the hostel for a few days then this would be a very comfortable place to do it. the staff are very proffesional and the...

The place is located in Santa Teresa, which is up the hill from Lapa, in a beautiful residental area with an almost Mediterranean feel to it. Totally different from the messy Rio the cursory traveller gets to see. You need to take a bus, cab or tramway to get there, but it is definitely worth it. The view from the...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
