We had great difficulty in getting a definitive email response from this Pousada, and ended up just turning up at the desk. It was a long weekend, but they managed to fit us in to an otherwise full hotel. The style reflects the many Swiss and German settlers in the area from the 1800s and we had fun looking at the Brazilianized version of Swiss decorations. A comfortable room and great breakfasts contributed to our enjoyment. In addition the Pousada has a number of swimming pools including a heated indoor plunge pool next to a gymnasium. Excellent value for money.

If you are in Rio de Janeiro during their summer and want to get away from the heat, going up to Teresópolis which is 2,858 ft above sea level may be the solution. It is about a one hour and a half drive from Rio under normal traffic conditions. An old but rather charming place to stay in Teresópolis is Pousada Chamonix. The rooms and its decor are a bit dated but the hotel is located near the entrance of the city in a neighborhood called Alto. The reception is exceptionally nice and the location is about 4 blocks from the main road going into town. They are always fully booked from Fridays through Sundays during the summer. A reasonably adequate breakfast is included with the price of the room. During the time we were there, the wi-fi was not working except in the swimming pool area. On Saturdays and Sundays when the Feirinha do Alto (a sort of flea market walking distance from the hotel) is open, one may find some handcrafted items at very reasonable price. Also there is a Shopping do Alto which has a very good restaurant that opens during the week-end - Bon Appétit.

We chose this venue for it's location. We wanted to visit the Therezopolis Brewery (aka Vila St. Gallen) and the inn is just there. But, regardless, it was a pleasant surprise the inn is charming, the staff is very kind, and we just regret that we had to come back to Rio that soon. Will surely go back.

I've stayed at this guesthouse other times and this time we only stayed for one night. I like the location, breakfast and service. The room was very clean, the bed linen and towels were clean and fragrant, I slept well, even though it was facing the street I didn't hear any noise. It needs to be modernized a little but without losing the warmth of the place.
I didn't use the outside area. The bathroom needs updating and I suggest bigger beds to improve comfort.
I would stay again! It is also pet friendly, which makes it easier for owners who enjoy traveling with their 4-legged children.

I've been to this hotel about 15 years ago and it was good. Today it's only worth it for the price, one of the cheapest in the region. Aged, musty-smelling hotel, poor breakfast. Our room was old and the bathroom was very old with several broken details. Furthermore, the acoustics are terrible and I couldn't sleep with the snoring of the guest in the next room.

I was only in apartment 5 for 1 night with 1 flight of stairs.
The location is pleasant, a 10-minute walk from the Alto fair and close to an excellent feijoada restaurant.
Very friendly service, but the room and bathroom need renovation and maintenance. The bed, mattress and sheets were clean and pleasant.
Having a step from the bedroom to the bathroom is not justified and could cause those who are distracted to fall.
Breakfast in a space that can be uncomfortable in a busier hotel. The buffet is narrow for more people to move around. Normal coffee for inn expectations.
I also think that due to the terrain, there are a lot of stairs and ramps, which can be inconvenient for people with less mobility. I believe (to check) that all rooms are accessed by stairs.

Very well located, polite and efficient service. But focus on the details. Mold on the windows, in the corners of the walls, very old bathroom, etc. It just takes a little care. Spacious beds and great mattress. Simple but abundant and quality breakfast.

Answer from Maycon T
7 contributions2 helpful votes
