The hotel was built with the intention of taking one back in time and yet it also provided you with all the modern facilities. The wood carvings, lanterns and murals all added to the charm. But it is the attention to details that i really appreciated. For example the writing material provided in the room, down to the shape and...

A true experience of the old charm of China. This is the hotel to stay when in Dunhuang as it complements the visit to the Buddhist caves. The rooms, the lobby are exquisite...the only drawback is the restaurant for dinner. No real food selection.

We stayed two nights here in October 2016. The room was very comfortable, with a view of the impressive Mingsha Dunes. The hotel is a bit far from downtown Dunhuang, but it is only 5 minutes or so from Mingsha Dunes. It occupies a huge area, with courtyards and pavilions for the nightly Dunhuang shows, etc., even though there are...

Hotel looks very grand from the outside, indeed the compound is rather big. Our room on the ground floor is quite spacious. The double bed we have is very big. Towels are new. Shower is hot but pressure not very strong. Note that there is no bathtub. Spread at the breakfast buffet is huge, but not much meat items. Nice...

We had 2 nights here in a group. Service was pleasant. Communication good with us English speakers. Rooms pleasant and nicely furnished. Breakfast on roof restaurant a great experience. Very extensive choices of food. Even very conservative eaters could be well satisfied. Our only issue was a leaking toilet cistern which we reported in the morning and it had been...

This was, if you'll excuse the bad pun, an oasis in the desert after a long trip along the Silk Road. We were ready for some luxury and Western food (read: GOOD COFFEE) by this point. The rooms are completely charming: clean and comfortable. Rooftop terrace with grand view of the sand dunes. Breakfast if expansive, and, while predominantly Asia,...

At check-in, the staff couldn’t find the reservation despite my showing them the confirmation on their letterhead and some email correspondence with the hotel. After 15 minutes, they found it. No apology. The room is small, the view of the parking lot less than lovely. The shower handle fell off. Twice the staff simply put it back but without tightening...

Most hotels in Dunhuang are very good, but this one is truely outstanding, with its location adjacent to the Singing-Sand Mountain. The view when you have your breakfast is just AMAZING! It is more expensive than other hotels, but for people who love Dunhuang, this is 120% worth it.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel: it had a bit more character than your average Chinese luxury hotel, without sacrificing such necessities as decent plumbing. The hotel is Ming-dynasty themed, but manages to carry this through without falling into the Disneyland trap. My room, which came with an old-fashioned brass key rather than a plastic card. had a window...

Don't look any further for an hotel in Dunhuang. The rooms are clean and well equipped. The wow factor is the rooftop terrace for dining and breakfast with view on the sand dune. Amazing. The food is reasonable and we had enough choices for our family with 2 kids. Breakfast buffet is large before a day spent outside in the...

The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel is founded in 1995.
