I was there back in September. And yes, it was in the restricted area - however our driver (we travelled return from Guilin), just went 'the back way' so there was no problem. Nice hotel, nice staff. Lovely views!

But no hassle with English, getting to the bus or train station and then another hassle from the bus or train station to the hotel. Negotiate with the drivers BEFORE you get into the car and have the address in Chinese handy.
