We spent 9 nights at Esencia and we could easily have stayed longer! It has such a relaxed, welcoming, easy-going vibe, and Alex and the staff made us feel very welcome. The double room with private bathroom we stayed in had nice natural light, and the bathroom was all you could need, all for a really great price. They also did a really good clean of the room and changed the sheets every couple of days which was really appreciated. The breakfasts were included, and so good - especially the banana pancakes. We loved looking out at the beach while we ate our brekky after a morning surf. They did a good deal for me for board hire for the week, and my partner had a great theory surf lesson followed by some guided practice. Such good value! We really loved our stay at Esencia - it felt like our home away from home!

After a 60-hours nightmare-travel I arrived in Esencia, crashed in one of the hammocks, listening to the bird and ocean-sounds and felt instantly home, happy und in the right spot. Stayed in one of the older rooms, which are simple but got all you need. Two surf-breaks right infront, beautiful souls in the whole little village, sweetest staff giving out smiles, good drinks and food, good chillout-areas and just the whole vibe is pretty much al you need to be happy. I´ll be back. <3

I stayed at Esencia Nativa for 2 nights. I don’t surf and I was just looking for somewhere chilled out and easygoing to relax. It certainly fitted the bill for what I was looking for. The staff are helpful and considerate without being in your face. The food is excellent and the facilities are great. The beach is on the doorstep and is great for slouching around out and doing nothing. It’s not super cheap but as others have mentioned, what do you expect for a place that is at the end of the line? I ate one night here - fantastic seafood pizza - and one night at the Vikingo restaurant 100m up the road. Quality food at both places. Gets my tick ✅

Wow, none of us had ever had such a complete and thoughtful lesson in surfing. All of us at one time or another had lessons in surf spots around the world and none of us felt afterwards that we were able to surf even though we might, for one instance have the pose of a surfer and had that fleeting profile shot. With Alex and his crew we had a strong theory class for about an hour then headed into the wash to practice the basic skills on a moving board. Each of us had our own assistant to help with the board in the water and get set up for the ride. I’ve never been so successful before nor built confidence and skills for the real waves. All the while our instructor on the shore watching and giving feedback. We were excited everyday to get boards and practice without being beaten and battered by the surf. We took the follow up lessons and some took level 3 “wave theory” which really gives you the knowledge you need to read the rollers. All our crew, close to 20 of us, agreed this was the best instruction we had ever had, and i am eager for more. Oh ya the foods pretty good to, but I only stayed a night in a simple room so cant say much more than that.

We didn't stay at Esencia Nativa, but we did do surf lessons for a week with Surferos. The instruction is all-time, and they had every one of us standing up on the first day. I highly recommend it if you're in the area.

Esencia nativa is a fairly nice hostel/hotel in El Zonte. Staff are quite blunt but friendly, facilities are basic but comfortable, pool is nice but needs to be cleaned more regularly. Prices are a little too high for what they offer. The food is fairly tasty but again a little expensive plus they automatically add a tip despite average waiters. The room was quite clean but we found a scorpion on the bed side table.

Our family ( from Canada ) spent 4 days here and Absolutely Loved every minute. We have 3 children ages 9 , 10 , 14 The kids all did surf lessons and had so much fun as did myself & my husband. The beach was great , apparently certain times of the year the beach is more rocky but in January it was Beautiful black sand. The food was amazing, the staff is so friendly. Such a peaceful place and extremely family orientated. Thank you Alex .. looking forward to our next trip

We came here for a quick drink and some dessert one evening in El Zonte. The restaurant is a bit overpriced but this is understandable, given that it is the most popular place in the small community. What bothered us was the attitude we received when asking to use their wifi (a rare good in El Zonte), which they don't give to restaurant customers because it would consume too much; the staff was very unpleasant to us. We were the only customers that evening, the only other people hanging around were staff members - using their phones to watch youtube and listen to music. We don't know about the room or food quality - they actually look good, for what we have seen. The experience with the staff, though, was very disappointing - being a little bit kinder to external guests wouldn't be a bad idea!

Alex is great. His surf lessons were the best. Have nothing to do with Rivas though, he is dishonest and scammed us, and then tried to bribe us. It was such a bad experience with him that I never want to return to El Zonte.
