We were disappointed with our stay at El Portal. We stayed there in early April 2017. Location: We were expecting peace, tranquility and nature - like it says on their website “In our vision is the care of the environment, we are a totally ecological project, with local people aware of the care of nature and therefore the beauty of...

Arriving after dark to be told they were sold out and we were staying in a dorm. As our package (transportation Antigua-semuc-flores and accommodation in Semuc) was for a bungalow, we were not very pleased. But they said they were fully-booked and nothing to be done. The plot thickened as a couple we met on the way up, who did...

We (me and my boyfriend) booked a tour/bus from Antigua to Flores/Tikal, with two nights in El Portal/Semuc Champey! The place is wonderful and the tour offered by the hotel is great - A must do!! Hotel staff was very friendly and our room, number 17, was really nice. Would totally recommend this place! We felt safe and welcome any...

Clean and quiet. It's the closest accommodation to the pools in the Semuc park. I recommend not eating at them, but at the ladies that stay at the entrance in the park (if you're ok with their sanitary conditions and all). We took their tour which includes the pools in the park, the cave tour and water tubing - the...

It is so close to Semuc Champey, you walk "from door to door" sort of speak, taking into account that is a "difficult" road from the town to the park. The rooms are fine and clean, the only thing I have to say is: There must be a way to isolate the smell of the drainpipe from the restrooms, it...

Stayed recently at El Portal with friends. Few lads in our 20's. I 100 percent could not recommend a better place to stay if you're visiting Semuc Champey. The most beautiful hostel i have ever stayed in. Feels like a tropical paradise! Only a 10 minute walk from the pools. El Portal is run by an amazingly nice family that...

DO NOT GO ! Worst service in all Guatemala ! Ok the place is cute but for you to know : - no wifi - no water and of course forget about hot water - 4 hours electricity a day - double price for food and drinks. ( x4 for beers ) - they forget their good English as soon...

Being the closest accommodations to Semuc Champey, that in itself makes it awesome. You'll see why once you see the road all the way from Lanquin to the pools. Most people stand in the back of pickup trucks and just hold on to welded on bars for the duration of the trip, which is about 45 mins from Lanquin. There...

It is a beautiful place. All around is nature, and a river goes by. People are very friendly and opened to listen to suggestions! I like the food. It is good compared to others hotels and restaurants! 🍴😊 They also organized tours to Semuc Champey and Cuevas de Camba

Great location right next to the pools and cave. Don't pay for the tour, it's a total rip off and you can go to the pools by yourself and do a cave tour for a 3rd of the price. Very cold shared showers. Nice room with comfy bed and mosquito net. Very polite staff and good food at the on...
