A lovely, simple guesthouse in the heart of the old city. Our room was spotlessly clean, with a modern en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was served on the terrace upstairs and comprised a good choice of dishes, together with proper coffee. The owner was friendly and helpful, able to recommend places to eat and advise on transport. We would definitely return.

Afonso was a lovely place to start our holiday in India. Stayed in a room with 2 friends and we all really enjoyed our stay. A great location from which to just walk and explore - you can easily just walk into the centre / down to the sea front or catch an auto easily if needed. Jeanette and Clifton...

Our stay at the Afonso Guest House was really great. The room was very nice and its a quiet part of Goa. The hosts are the best! They cared for us and helped us in our bad situation during a time where no ATM was working for days. We will definitely come back.

Very conveniently located in the Fontainhas old district of Panjim. Quaint little homestay. Do not expect a Portuguese Mansion or a palatial ambience - this is a cottage style compact room - Just rooms to sleep. There is no living or a foyer or a verandah to chill out. The terrace is the only place to hang out if the...

Incredible India slogan is nothing less than the truth for a single older female traveling alone in India. One of my most memorable stays was at Afonso Guest House in Goa. When my internet was spotty living up in a remote mountain area Ashram and I was unable to book via internet reservation I called, they were very understanding and...

Tha place is not bad, but is not an exceptional place. The rooms are very basic, there is no living room or place to rest and read a book or talk to other guests. Except the roof for breakfast under the hot sun in the moorning. For the price could Be the breakfast included. They don't accept credit cards at...

It was a perfect trip, to the Fontainhas area, Panjim, where we found the old Goa and Portuguese style culture and locales enmeshed. With the info gathered from the Afonso family we could visit some untouched places. Also enjoyed the exquisite breakfast in a nearby bakery. It was really an amazing stay at the guest house , clean, prim and...

This place has all what you need for a short stay. Rooms are clean and the entire house well mantained. Afonso and his mother are very kind and open people who provided help and esential information about surrounding and other fields of interest. I recommend this place due to its specific spirit and wonderful and quiet location. Try it yourself!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Afonso Guest House, run by Panaji's reputed Afonso family, is more than just a guest house to its many patrons. Nestled in the capital city's quaint Latin quarter of Fontainhas, it is a veritable bridge between Goa's Portuguese past and Indian present. A favoured haunt for many an adventurous traveller for over two decades, its hospitality and peppy spirit show no sign of aging and are still as fresh as they were back then. It makes no pretense of being luxurious; instead, Afonso Guest House prides itself in being simplistic and practical. With its friendly and welcoming hosts, it's truly your home away from home-clean and functional, the rooms are airy, and equipped with everything a traveller might need. However, the clincher is its lovely terrace graced with potted plants where traditional Goan breakfasts are served to guests every morning, overlooking the whitewashed St Sebastian Chapel. So, if you seek home in a foreign land, come over! Really! You won't regret it. ... more   less
