Tucked away in a quiet corner of the island, Toledo Inn is right at the waterfront and offers beautiful views of the lake any time of the day. Given how little information about the resort there is online, I was surprised to see its actual size and the number of rooms available, having expected it to be some sort of small-scale business. The management must have been sleeping since the '90s with the decline of tourism in the area! Still the place provides a lot of values to non-demanding tourists with clean and extremely spacious rooms, a quiet atmosphere as well as friendly staff. The designated swimming area has quite a bit of weed though. Breakfast menu is simple, offering a choice of either Indonesian fried noodles / rice, or Western toasts. If you are simply looking for a place to relax with a book, and enjoy the peaceful landscape, Toledo Inn is your bet. Just look for all the adventure and entertainment possibilities elsewhere outside the inn; shops and restaurants are within five minutes of walk. Do rent a motorbike or bike to roam around the island and explore the fantastic environment of Samosir! If possible, stay for at least 4 full days.

We stayed here for a night in between stops to other parts of Medan. The boat ride was smooth and quick. My kids and I particularly enjoyed the "diving boys" experience where tourists throw in coins into the lake and the boys will dive in to get them. Although might be dangerous, I warned the boys not to go too far so i threw in just by the edge.
The view was spectacular and I felt at peace with nature. The Lake Toba landscape was just mesmerising. The Toledo Inn was swift in checking us in, it merely took us 10 mins to get to our rooms. However, our rooms were hilltop and my 70-year -old dad had to climb the steep staircase, which left him quite breathless, This location was not stated earlier.
The room was basic, unfortunately no air conditioning or fans available. I admit the weather was cool, but if the rooms had windows that could open , we wouldnt feel so stuffed inside. There were grilled windows above the windows but was closed by nets so I would say no air circulation was in the room. We slept uncomfortably, plus there were noises from the bar too loud that went on until around 3 am ( I knew coz I had trouble sleeping because of the heat).
Toilet was also basic and water heater was available. Hotel maintenance, however, should really work harder to maintain the cleanliness of the room and particularly the bathroom equipments.
During dinner, we were told to come down to the only restaurant near the lobby and to our surprise, the walkway was too dark! We had 5 children with us and 2 elderly parents whom are prone to falls , and there was no staff nearby to ask for help. Lucky two of us brought flashlights and the rest had to use mobile phones to assist us in walking down the steep staircase.I strongly urge the hotel to install walkway lampposts to avoid injuries and falls to guests.
Restaurant served good food, and good service. Waitress was friendly and helpful enough to send us coffee to the lakeside after dinner as we enjoyed the cool winds.
Staff were helpful with the luggage and this quite important as the walkways are rather tricky to pull a wheeled luggage, and to carry them to the hilltop by steep stairs!
We enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to any other tourists.

This hotel is near to water and google map location need adjustment.
No air conditioning. No fan. Bathroom smell bad. Food is tasteless. Alhamdulillah during Breakfast there is soy sauce to make food tastier, don't forget to ask for it.
Furniture need replacement. Air vents that can see outside, be careful when changing cloth. Room is average and got ants.
Very near to water, boat park just in front of your room. Ferry ship provide by hotel to commute between Parapat to hotel. Room is on hillside, need to use lots of staircase, don't bring large luggage then it will trouble you. Dark pathways during night, make sure bring your torchlight.
Nearby hotel there some local shops selling souvenirs and food. Walking along road suddenly you can smell odour of human dropping. Don't forget to bring torchlight or you might step on dogs dropping.
Telkomsel data line is not stable here, sometimes you get 3.5G and 2G.
For internet and phone call, get telkomsel simcard at price of IDR 70000 for 4gb data and IDR 5000 credit, I don't think you can buy this simcard around, I get mind once I landed at Kualanamu Airport.

We were @ Toledo Inn, Samosir, Lake Toba, to celebrate yeard end 2019. The hotel was built in 1976 but have recently been renovated. Tourists from Europe are common here, some of them are loyal customers who stay for weeks or months. Highly recommended for writers who want to get inspiration for their next book due to its beautiful scenery and tranquility.

If you stay here, don't under any circumstances hire the jet scooters. Apart from the exorbitant cost of 800,000 for 2 hours, if anything goes wrong (through no fault of your own), you will be treated like a criminal. 30 minutes in to our "experience", my friend's jet scooter broke. Having securely tied up our scooters on the shoreline, we found our way back to the hotel. We were offered no compensation, refund or apology and the hotel instead threatened to call the police! Do yourself a favour and hire a motorcycle instead from the nearby shops.

A better and cleaner resort compared with the resorts nearby, overlooking the lake. Rooms are a bit run down and bed is not so comfy but it's acceptable for me. No fan and air-conditioning in the room, so be sure you visit the place at the right season. Bring mosquitoes repellent or coil if you wish to sleep with door opened since there is no fan in the room. No hair dryer and I am not sure if they provide the facility from the house keeping.
A tip to get cheaper souvenier in Ambarita village where the stone chairs are situated, do not buy them from the stalls near to the stone chairs, go further out where you came in and the stalls offer much cheaper price. You need a good negotiation skill as they can mark up the price a lot.
Cycling is impossible near by the resort as the place is huge, suggest you rent a motorcycle to go around.
The stalls outside the resort close early during weekday, so be sure to go early for beer, water, or junk food. Make sure you have a torch light with you as some streets can be very dark at night.

Totally decent place to stay in Tuk-Tuk. The room was big and clean, but pretty run down.. The amazing view from the porch was making up for everything else though.
Breakfast included in the price, western or Asian style. Far from exciting, but definitely OK as a start of the day. The staff did their best to keep us satisfied, but there was some language barriers.
If you're looking for a quiet getaway close to the water, you're going to like this. Multiple places to sit down along the water and enjoy a book or two!

Hotel worn out and over the top. Bathroom extremely worn out, door half rotten, taps loose, very dirty shower.... Won't go there anymore. Restaurant looks more like North Korean Party congress hall
