I can't say enough good things about Sri Sentosa and Kampung Mukut. You will be mesmerized the moment u get on the boat from Kampung Genting heading to Kampung Mukut. The boat ride is a scenic adventure itself. Views of beautiful beaches amongst green tropical jungle with a backdrop of karst hills and the blue ocean will take your breath away when you head to Kampung Mukut.

Sri Sentosa is the most splendid family run chalet. We stayed at the beachfront chalet which is largest (1 king sized + 2 single sized beds) and had the best view of ocean. The aircond works well, the toilets are clean and so is the bedding. They even provide clean towels and there is a walled fan in the room with an electric kettle to boot. The balcony faces the sea with ample seating. We spent every morning and night on the balcony enjoying the view and seabreeze. There is good 4G signal in the room for all the screen addicts if needed. The location of the resort is so central to everything important in this village. It's walking distance to the jetty. Our luggage was carried for us from jetty to room by which was a very good arrangement.

We arranged for dinner everyday we stayed at 6 pm and it was spectacularly cooked. There is a local cafe walking distance where everyone hangs out at night if you still feel hungry. Zhafri the owners son was most helpful in arranging anything and everything you need during your stay here. He arranged bait for fishing from the jetty which the kids could not get enough of day and night. He's only a chalet away for anything you need.

We did walks along the paved paths to other resorts but to be honest, Sri Sentosa set in the beautiful village of Kampung Mukut is hard to beat as it has that village feel that you can find no where else. This is our 3rd visit and my kids actually said it feels like coming home. That says alot.

Sri Sentosa is a quiet place to relax, there is a beautiful waterfall close, you can hike or snorkel. If you stay there you'll have the kindest hosts ever, they are happy to help you if you have questions and just make the place feel like home. Would really recommend staying there!

Kg Mukut is a quiet malay village in the south of Tioman where Sri Sentosa Chalet is located. I would never have gone there until my sister (who is a repeated customer) introduced me to this place. The chalet is clean but do not expect amenities like what they have in a 4/5 star resort styled accomodation. It's a very simple and basic (bring your own toiletries and towel) chalet, although there's aircon and fan. Be prepared for possible power outtage and sometimes, the hot water may run very slow( in that case, you can always have a cold shower as the water comes from the natural waterfall).

Travellers expecting a secluded, exclusive resort with 5 star amenities (eg Japamala, Bagus resort) should note that this is not like those at all. If that is the expectation, Sri Sentosa is not the place for you. Sir Sentosa gives you no frills, it is first and foremost a clean and simple chalet set in a malay village, a humble and innocent place where you will be met with genuine hospitality from the heart.

What sets it apart from the beautiful hotels and resorts along its path is the excellent service they provide. The owners Zamros and Aishah are sincere and very genuine. And I might say, rather resourceful as well! Once, we were hiking across to find natural beaches so we could tan, swim and snorkel, however dark clouds were approaching and heavy rain was likely. Aishah managed to find us a speedboat back before the short thunderstorm, otherwise, it would be another 2 hrs trek in rain through the jungles back to the chalet. In fact while we were on the speedboat back, Zamros and his staff were on their motorbikes going to one of the resorts where we stopped to pick up anyone who is tired. Such is the attentiveness to their guests!

As Kg Mukut is in the south, we needed to travel about 15 mins by boat to the Marine Park. The journey up north is beautiful, you pass by the twin peaks, some natural beach and also some upmarket resorts. After snorkeling, we had packed lunch (nasi lemak). Thecoconut rice plus eggs, fried groundnuts, and sambal squid were yummy!

And the second day we even explored new snorkeling grounds(Aishah's new find) and managed to see 2 large humphead parrot fishes ( probably 1/2m in length), white sea urchin, smaller parrot fishes, clown fishes, giant clams etc...( I didn't manage to see the shark but someone saw a reef shark). Bring your own snorkelling gear if you are a snorkelling enthusiast, otherwise, snorkels and lifevest are available for rent for $18 per day.

In front of Sri Sentosa chalet are some rocks which we found natural oysters. That set off some excitment in us and we went oyster "harvesting". The oysters were small , probably tiny, but really fresh enough to just pop them in your mouth after shucking it. It was a fun and free experience. You can even call it our appetizer before dinner.

On the last evening, we had a sumptous BBQ seafood dinner of lobsters, crayfish, prawns, flower crabs. Now, where can you find such an awesome deal? No alcohol or smokes are served or sold here as the owners are religious. Not an issue for non-smokers like me! :) However, if you are, they have areas designated for the smoking but bring your own ciggies.

Sri Sentosa is often fully booked during peak periods, public holidays mainly by locals and Singaporean. Its no wonder, for the 4D/3N stay (including the BBQ dinner on our last night cost us only around $270 per pax for a group of 10(4D/3N full board).

I always try to be professional as I could in all my reviews. Stayed 2 nights at Sri Sentosa Chalet Kg. Mukut, Tioman with my friends & their kids. 38 person in total. Sri Sentosa Chalet could be a perfect place for us. The village is peaceful, nice long beach & cooling river next to our rooms.

BUT the owner/operator screwed it. This is the first time I/we been treated this way. I can say they have no manner & horrible hospitality toward us. We're feel unwelcome. Maybe because we are local people (Malaysian). They keep bragging about foreigner customers & show off how good is their children are (like we're really care).

After we get off from the ferry, I looked forward to meet the operator/owner at Kg. Mukut jetty. We met Aisyah & Zamros. Not event a single word welcoming us, instead Aisyah's first sentence to me was "you're very unorganised !" .....blaming me as "unorganised" because I did not advise them about our ferry schedule to them and keep babbling blaming me. I did email them earlier about our check-in date & check-out date and as operator they should aware about ferry schedule and its not my problem.

Booking process was not convenience, they don't reply email quickly. You need to call them. We are not getting exactly what we booked at the end. We have to agree because they are seem kind of up-tight to us and we already paid 50% as deposit earlier. We don't have much choice.

They keep remind us about chalet rules like we are too stupid to understand.

There are common area in front of our chalet rooms. nice area to hangout with friends. They switch off the light at night and we have to pay RM10/night to light up these common area. It's like you book a hotel room and you have to pay the extra RM10/night just to switch on the light.

Young staffs are not friendly, especially chalet owner's son. He don't show respect to us as a guest. He is kind of cocky when he speak to us.

The rooms was kind of bit run down and the water heater was not functioning, but we don't really mind about that, as long as they show us a little bit of respect. I/We will never coming back to Sri Sentosa Chalet again.

Not recommended, especially to local guest. they kind of double standard between foreigner & local guest.

It's true what people say about expecting too much. Our stay could've been a good one. Alas, that was not the case. My friends and I arrived in the morning after two hours(almost) journey with the ferry. All of us were feeling super excited to explore Kg. Mukut. Upon arriving at Sri Sentosa Chalet, we started to feel a bit uneasy because of the way the owner greeted us.

One of our friends (the organizer) was treated like a kid as if Kg. Mukut was the first place he ever landed his feet on this world. He was claimed unorganized by the owner because we arrived in the morning and the owner of the chalet said that they were not yet prepared for our arrival. The blame should not be put on us because the leader for this trip had already emailed mentioning that we'll be arriving on that day. Isn't the owner supposed to be aware of the ferry's timetable? He has an Ipad, so shouldn't it be put to good use? Just because he's not prepared, he can't blame it on us saying that we're bunch of unorganized people. We did inform that we're coming. That's just plain rude.

Moving on to the next incidence, one of the groups did not get the room as per our request. Hence, we have to settled because there's no other choice. Fair? Don't think so.

The second day, some of us went for snorkeling trip where we were promised to go to four places. Due to bad weather towards the end of the day, the last place had to be cancelled. HOWEVER, we did pay for four places. I think we are entitled to have some sort of refund or compensation right?

On the last night that we were there, while we were hanging out exchanging stories and having a good time, suddenly we were rudely interrupted by the owner's son mentioning that we have to pay RM20 for the electricity that we had used for two nights. All of us were too speechless and dumbfounded by the request because honestly, all this while traveling to other places , we didn't have to pay for the usage of electricity. The rudeness of the owner's son just add salt to the injury.

Maybe they treat locals like this. So, if you are from other country, fret not because you are going to be treated like a gem ( or NOT). One thing that I notice was that this family needs to go for a one day courtesy course conducted by whomever who's wiling to teach them the A-Z of being courteous. That's ironic though, because Malay people are supposed to have that common courtesy instilled in us since we were a toddler. Maybe it's not there in their genes.

After being treated that way, as a group, we questioned the existence of the Trip Advisor sticker being stuck there on the wall of their place. Is that sticker original or a fake? Hmm.....

Arrival guide:
There are two options to reach Tioman Island, Mukut. You better take the first option in order to save time and money.

1. TG. GEMOK - MUKUT - new ferry service (45 Ringgit)
Juana Express – everyday direct to Mukut from Tg. Gemok (2 hours): 10:00am
For information call the office at tel. +60 (0) 94131390 or +60 (0) 102527888 (changes possible)

If you arrive in Mersing by bus:
From Mersing Bus Station to Tg. Gemok it´s a 30-40 Min travel.
By taxi about RM 30 – by bus about RM4 (leaves every hour from the morning to night)

2. MERSING-TG. GENTING-MUKUT
Ferry from Mersing to Tg. Genting (RM35 + conservation fee RM25)
Sea taxi from Tg. Genting to Mukut – RM50/person, but at least RM100
If you take this option let the Chalet owners call you the sea taxi, this saves you a lot of money.

Review:
We stayed at the Chalet for nine nights. We really enjoyed our stay in this small and peaceful village. We had a clean Chalet with sea view. The interior is simple but sufficient. The service of the chalet owners was passionate.

Recommandations:
From Mukut it´s easy to walk to a nice waterfall. Furthermore you can hike/climb up to a impressive mountain. Of course beach and sea activities are also offered - like conoe, snorchling, swimming.

Not a great place, nor a terrible one.
Just: a place te stay. The prices are low (not the lowest on the island) and its close to some nice diving spots or centres. Accomodation is basic, don't expect more than a bed and a cold shower, but fair enough for its price. If u travel on a budget, this is what u're used to ;-)

My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights in April and it is one of our favourite places we have travelled. The chalets are basic but they are comfortable and clean. The location is a small village on the south of the island. We were unsure whether to go here or another more tourist resort type area. We were so glad we did! The beach a 5 minute walk away is soft white sand and warm clear water. It's one of the best we have seen while travelling SE Asia. You can walk to the waterfall which was a decent walk with lots of wildlife. A dip in the pool at the bottom is refreshing. You can hike up the two peaks also. People come here to visit these but stay in other resorts and have to pay for a sea taxi anyway so don't let that put you off visiting Mukut.
Aisha and her family are what makes Sri Sentosa special, her food is spectacular (some of the best we have ever had seriously)!! Ask for fish and Malay style its delicious. We have craved it ever since.. Aisha will do everything she can to make your stay more enjoyable. We spent an afternoon in Genting waiting for the ferry and we regretted that decision, its a horrible place in comparison.

We had a great time in these place located in Kg Mukut. Make sure that you have days enough to extend your time here. Aisyah was nice and helpful even before we arrived.
The access is not cheap due to the boat fees but the owners would arrange something cheaper to get to the hotel and to go around the island. The rooms have a good size and the bed is very comfortable. Aisyah has a very good place and the beach and the views in front of the house were an unexpected bonus. There are other beaches at just 10 min walking distance, and the possibility of doing snorkelling, kayak, walks in the jungle or just a bit of sport or reading around the place. Do not forget to visit the waterfalls: only 20 min walk

There are a few places to eat in the island but Aisyah took the time to cook nice breakfasts and dinners for us (lovely fresh vegetables, lovely fresh fish!)

We enjoyed 100% every minute and in the end we regretted not to have extra days left to extend our stay. We strongly recommend this place to see local people, get out of the crowded touristic places and just r e l a x for a few days in this little paradise. Thanks Aisyah! 👬X&O

The beach is lovely, it's not all sandy, it's a beach with sand, rocks, and corals. Their are some patches you can lay on to sunbathe. The snorkelling near the chalet is good on a good day. The reefs are very near the property. Chalets are by the beach only 6 chalets that I see have sea views on the beach

You have to take the ferry and stop at the first stop, Genting, and then take a taxi-boat to the village of Mukut
