They're not on email or the web, so I had to give the owner, Mr Lam (Lum) a call on +6089-219 855 for a booking. Really cheap but spotlessly clean. There is a laundromat about 150 meters up the road, modern and great. It's in the centre of Old Sandakan, so everything is right there. There is no safe in... More

I stayed at May Fair Hotel for 2 nights; one night with my boyfriend and another night on my own after our Kinabatangan trip as he has to return to KL. It's exactly as what other reviewers have said about this place and more! It's really very clean, a definite plus point. Very affordable price for a very clean room... More

The hotel is centrally located and easy to find. It is close to the bus station for the orangutans/sun bears etc. There is a mall nearby and restaurants. The rooms are a bit tired but clean. There is free water; good air-con; many electrical sockets and a TV to play DVDs from the vast selection available. The bathroom has good... More

I traveled to Sandakan for ANZAC Day 2016 (soldiers remembrance service) and stayed the May Fair due to the convenience to the city centre and budget price of RM50 per night. Mr Lum was a great host and was very helpful with directions and general information. He is a no nonsense man so if you respect him he will respect... More

I found this recommwndation on Rough guides and I found it proven 100%. Nothing fancy, but is comfortable and clean, excellent location. The greatest value is the owner - incredibly warm and helpfull man. The man has a great collection of dvds and offers them at any time for free (equipment in every room). He helps with drinkable watter in... More

Wondering why more people don't stay here. Central location (handy to water front etc), spotless room and a wonderful host who went further than expected. We stayed twice during our stay and would definitely come back if we were travelling in the area.

Great value for money, perfectly clean, great service. Was recommended by a tour company and this place was excellent. DVDs to borrow, 16 plug sockets(!), and hot drinks to order in the morning (free). Shower was great, bed comfortable and noise was minimum. The owner incredibly helpful and friendly. One of our favourite hotels in Malaysia.

I was driving my family to Sandakan then suddenly my car broke down. To make things worse, it was Labour Day, and most of the mechanics listed in my Google search were closed. My dad thought of calling the hotel to rent a taxi. The owner of the hotel obliged and sent us a taxi right away. The taxi driver... More

Wow what a great stay. If every owner would run his hostel/hotel like they do we would not need reviews. The owner cleans every room really carefully and gave us everyday fresh purified drinking water. Everyroom has his own flate TV with a DVD player AND a movie collection with uncountable quantity of DVDs. We felt so good that we... More

We we're recommended this hotel by the company we booked a tour with and it was great. We stayed 4 nights, we left our luggage here when we went on a trip. It was so clean, had wifi in every room, loads of plug sockets, had a tv with a DVD player and the owner had a massive collection of... More
