We took Malindo Air which is a jet engine plus propeller plane for 72 seats. Flew from SG to KL to stay overnight, and then from Subang airport in KL to Kota Bahru. Then a land transport to Jetty and speed boat to Perhentian Island. I would suggest to take direct flight to Kota Bahru if you can. Snorkeling with the kids was delightful. Two children took their PADI basic course at the dive centre. Jungle trekking is quite easy and fun. This resort is dry - we walk daily to the other resort about 10 mins walk away to eat at resto that sells alcohol. The beach chalet is basic but comfortable and clean enough. Lovely experience, and friendly staff. We hired a boat to island hop and snorkel. It’s pretty crowded during the peak season. We saw turtle, black tipped sharks, many…
Compared with other islands visited I found the perhentians to be everything wrong with tourism! Rammed with people with no respect for the environment , sewage is pumped into the ocean, corals are dying and people literally harass turtles to the point they can’t breathe. Tourists like these have no respect for their surroundings. They were from all over the world however I often saw large Italian groups leaving rubbish on the beaches and throwing their cigarettes in the sea. Do some research and go elsewhere
Perhentian resort This hotel has taken no responsibility to improve the understanding of visitors to the island about how to care for the marine life in the Perhentians. Their tour boats speed into the bay with no care or consideration for surfacing turtles (or the safety of swimmers). It is not safe to swim where the boats come in. The Resort has made no attempt to educate their visitors about care for coral or turtles. The coral is terribly degraded and the only turtle was a poor old thing with a chunk out of his shell. Even so I still saw a swimmer grabbing him and stopping it diving. Concrete pylons are sitting in the beach and I suggest that as they extend their accommodation they may find visitors won’t come if there is nothing for the tourists to see.
Let’s start from the beginning : - pushed in the first boat leaving from Kuala Besut, without any explanation ( we booked Hotel boat transfer) - room twin instead of double - room small and clearly not like the photo available on the website : for them, Beachfront is 20 meters to the beach - little wood door separating from the other room, not well closed so waken up by childs crying every morning - not changed every day ( toilet paper/ cafe / shower gel ... mug not washed during 4 days) - bin changed only two times on 4 days - ashtray never emptied - broom for sand only passed the third day - buffet with no flavor and we are like at the cantine. - juices not good - wifi only at reception ( why wifi so ? ) - employee prefer to let a snorkeling mask on the transat instead…
Rating this place is tricky and not at all an easy task. Foremostly, the staff is really nice, polite and always helpful. The beach is great - beautiful and not crowded. The animals are plantiful and simply cute: squirrels, monkeys, iguanas (?), sea turtles, fish (including mantas), awesome and huge bats - you name it and it's definitely there. Or in the jungle. And now the not-so-good part. The whole resort is a bit run down and could use quite some work. The shower drain smells like sewage but only at night, the paint is chipping off here and there. But the worst part is the food. It is simply bad and overpriced. I can eat almost anything and I am not fussy with food but this was downright awful. There is not a drop of alcohol in sight so you need to walk to a store in the…
