When keying in your GPS, be very careful which jetty you are headed to as there are 3 Jetties providing services to Redang with 2 close to each other in Merang. Another thing to note is to have a good meal before you arrive at the jetty as there’s pretty much nothing there. So unless you are into local delights (last 2 photos), you are probably better off stopping at a R&R along the highway to grab a burger. Once at the jetty, locating the staff from Taaras Resort wasn’t all that difficult. Wandered about to take some photos and as you can see, we took the bigger boat provided by the resort unlike the one we took on the way back. The journey to Redang island was about 30mins - 45mins slicing through clear blue waters towards our Long awaited holiday!! The speed boat takes u to a shared jetty from which its about a 10 min mini van ride to the resort. At Taaras however, the resort reminds us more of Club Med. Family orientated mainly. The interior & decor of the reception were unlike the fancy ones we have seen in Thailand and Indonesia but still pretty decent. Service, well dun seem understaffed but more of a case where they are busy looking busy. When they do eventually attend to u, they are polite and pleasant. We were told Taaras was one of the best in Redang hence at the entrance of the room we had a “is that it” look on our face. The age of the resort can be felt. Basic rooms, leaning on the edge of small/cramped. More of a scuba diver’s room where u literally use it to sleep only. If u want to chill in it, its probably not the room for u. Does not scream luxurious, but defines functional. U will definitely hear the neighbours (being a family oriented resort, kids with huge lungs are a plenty), u will hear the banging of doors & u can expect to a certain extent some insects to keep u company especially lizards. It is after all a sea side resort. But, when compared to those in Thailand and Indonesia Taaras is still trailing by a distance. After settling in, we decided to go out and about the resort. Overall, it has a very nice beach with crystal clear waters. As you can see from the photos, the resort is definitely more family oriented rather than a romantic get away or an eat pray love sort of thing. The resort is kind of big therefore there is a buggy service that does ferry guests about. However, given the huge amount of traffic, there’s quite a waiting time for it hence you are probably better off on foot. What we loved about the shore front was the swing and the chair which kinda goes under water during high tide and is quite instagrammable during Low tide. Unlike club med, activities are not entirely included. Hence if you are a water bug and want to take a canoe to hunt for turtles or get in some exercise on a paddle board, do get your wallet ready. They also have daily activities and a nice little area which gives you some education on turtles which is a nice touch for the kids. The adults might want to head off to the spa especially after a nice sun tan or simply chill by the beach front bar. Like all buffets, during the peak hours there’s a queue. However due to Covid 19, there are staff along the buffet line who will take the food for you. Hence, we will suggest avoiding peak hours unless you are ok standing in line for a bit as the usual queue just got longer. There are a total of 3 restaurants on the resort. The variety of food was pretty vast at the provided buffet (Asean All Day Dinning), however quality was just so so. The desserts however were pretty delicious and they even provided doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. Should you decide to dine at the other 2 restaurants (Beach Brassrie & Bayu Bar), we would suggest making a booking well in advance as both are along the beach hence tends to fill up quickly and a nice place at dusk to chill or even have drinks after dinner. But bear in mind that these 2 restaurants are not part of the package hence the food and beverages are chargeable. We would also recommend a relaxing walk down the beach after dinner . A life of a diver is simple. Dive, eat, drink and sleep. Repeat. At Taaras however, unlike other dive locations, the food was not provided. Usually a simple lunch is provided on the dive boat with a fruit platter and some drinks. At Taaras, because the dive sites are not far from the resort, they bring you back to the resort to rest and grab some food. They do provide some pastries and fruits after the dive. As lunch is not provided, we decided to be lazy and stay in the room and settle for room service. The food was surprisingly better than the buffet the night before. The club sandwich was toasted nicely and filled with an substantial amount of ham, egg cheese and veggies. The chicken chop was tender and juicy served with black pepper sauce and coleslaw. All in all quite a delicious meal. Only down side was it took an hour to arrive. Dining on the beach front, once again, like the room service, it was much better than the buffet included in the package. The satay was absolutely delicious. Meat was nice and tender and peanut sauce was extremely flavourful. The chicken wings, well we were not really impressed with it. Seemed something that popped out of a frozen bag but still when you are hungry, most things are tasty. Lastly, the burger was delicious with quite a sizeable juicy patty and an egg complemented with dressing. The French fries most importantly were not soggy but instead were nice and crispy. Therefore, even if some were frozen or pre-cooked, all was forgiven. Overall a nice ambiance to kill time between dives. Their restaurant however, sits right at the edge and almost on the beach hence a nice place to enjoy the sunset. That said however, it is still on the beach so be prepared for the usual flies and insects. Food, well its better than the buffet but a little disappointing. Presentation is there but taste could be improved. The seafood platter was not very fresh and prawns were pretty mush. The salad was, well, salad. Overall, we would say you are paying for the ambiance more than anything else. Before bidding goodby to Redang, we strongly recommend to take out 1 of the transparent Kayaks so you can paddle amongst friendly turtles. While Kayaking we bumped into 3 huge curious turtles whom swam to the surface to check us out before continuing their search for their dinner. Does not require much paddling as it is about 10minutes. Not difficult to find as they are close to shore and usually if you follow the delightful screams of the guide boats, you’re probably in the right direction. Advisable to bring along a camera, snorkel mask and huge smiles! You will not regret for sure! And when you arrive back on shore, do not forget the instagrammable swing!! We have been planning for my son wedding event but unfortunately, the limitation on number of our family that could travel during mco had restricted the wonderful event planned by our wedding planner. We however, settle gor 3D2N stays with close families and newly wed couple. We reached almost noon and can't wait for a great time to swim over the clear blue waters until around 4pm. All goes down to the waters including my grandson and it was a wonderful time with families. We had family dinner both nites and enjoy every moment of our stays. The view from gym was very much similar to my visit around the GOR, Australia in 2018 and I wonder how beautiful it could be from the villa.. maybe my next time visit would be an opportunity.. I wish to thank all staffs that make our stay a great experience, especially En Azmi & Chef Nazir. We shall plan to make another family trip again in the future once the condition gets better on travelling arrangement and limitation by the current situational issues... I had chance to talk w the GM and I hope can hv a chai masalla session for my next trip to Taaras, the goddes of sea

Before I share my full experience at Taaras, I must first state that this is a BEAUTIFUL resort with an incredible private beach and stunning view. I stayed at Taaras with my partner at the ocean front room for 4 days, it was a mixed experience for me. Pros - Friendly, helpful and kind staffs whom try their best to ensure out stay was comfortable. Shout out to Michelle for being so accommodating! - The resort and the rooms are nicely furnished and clean. I also love the add-ons ons, everything you possibly need comes with the room. - The staffs will come over for turn down services from 7pm onwards and leave some really yummy cookies. Its a lovely practice and I look forward for the cookies every night. Cons - There is an apparent lack of health and safety measures present in this ‘luxury’ resort. We had an unfortunate ATV accident and all I can say is, thankfully, the injuries were not fatal, because if it was something more serious that what we had, the resort is in major trouble. Taaras, your ATV need upkeep, our brake gave way , and the guy guiding DO NOT have the knowledge or experience to deal with emergency. No basic training provided. Only basic first aid, and one government clinic near jetty which closes at 5.00 PM, and no boat moves to mainland after 4.00 , so what will happen if anything happens Taaras? My goodness! We are just glad we got back to KL safe. - The food in resort is EXPENSIVE! I read some reviews about this but I thought it was an exaggeration , but it wasnt, think mediocre nasi lemak for RM50 above expensive. Also there are no alternatives outside resort, all restaurants outside opens at night and its way too dark and unsafe to leave the resort at night. Here is a reminder to bring snacks, light food, bread, etc before checking in, but there’s no microwave either. Even if you are willing to have all your meals in the resort and don’t mind the price, remember that all 3 dining places have same menu, on day 2 , you would have memorized the menu and probably tried almost everything. The taste of most things are okay, aside from the oxtail soup , spicy beef soup and hamburger , nothing else was outstanding for the price tag. - I also despise the external bidet in the toilet. I personally find it so disgusting. Why can’t we have normal toilet Taaras? Like when you are sitting on the toilet doing business, the smell from the bidet is impossible to deal with it. I perfectly understand that beach side resorts can’t possibly have the best plumbing, but this is traumatic for me and Im not even exaggerating. I’d rather go to the common toilet where there are regular bidet than doing anything in the toilet in my expensive room. - And finally, swimming pool could be better, I wish the beach bar was used to its potential, and also another wish that there is a small grocery to get basic necessities that dont cost a bomb; e.g : Panadol, biscuits, plasters, etc. We’ll probably return solely for the beautiful beach and the serenity, also now that we’ve known the tips and tricks.

Dear HonestNavy, Thank you for sharing your feedback from your stay. We appreciate your kind words about our comfy rooms with stunning views. Our dedicated staff will be pleased to learn of your high praise. They work very diligently and it will provide them with great encouragement to keep doing what they are doing. We are however saddened to hear your comments about your experience during the ATV trip. After conducting further investigations, we understand that upon the incident, the ATV operator had called the resort for backup assistance as additional manpower was required, while first aid was performed upon your arrival at the resort lobby. Our Safety & Security Manager had also offered to take you to the nearby clinic for further examinations of which our driver had brought you over. Upon further checks on the ATV, the brakes appear to be in good condition. The incident transpired due to the brakes and throttle being applied at the same time while going downhill. We are truly sorry for this unfortunate incident to take place during your vacation with us and hope you are recovering well now. I am also sorry to hear that you think we are overpriced. Please let me explain a little. We only use fresh ingredients in our kitchen. We are also located on the island which is reflected in our prices as we believe with those aspects put together, we produce an experience for our guests. Our apologies once again that your expectations were not met. We've also taken your thoughts and comments to heart and we're planning on making some internal changes based on your recommendations. We appreciate your constructive feedback and certainly look forward to having you stay with us again for a much better experience. Sincerely, Maya Kaur Marketing Communications Manager

It’s a nice resort. Our room, Premium Cliff View Suite, is awesome and spacious. The view from the balcony and jacuzzi is just amazing! Wish the tub is bigger tho to fit 2 people comfortably. And the highlight is of course the beach. Although the waves were big, we still had a great time frolicking on the sand and in water. Staff were nice and polite. Food wise, was a so so given the price that made you put high expectations and there were minor details that made the experience was a little below the excellence par such as: 1. Exposed wire on the wall in the WC 2. One of the ceiling tiles in the powder room was missing 3. Markings on the walls 4. Jetsams and flotsams beached by the tide were not cleared 5. Plates and glasses left by guests dining by the beach was not cleared But overall it was still a nice and memorable stay.
