I stayed there during my visit to the legendary city, and it was just ok. Friendly people, and just a refuge from the elements, that's how I saw it. You can't ask for too much in this place, under the circunstances. I slept well and that was all it mater.

We were booked into Le Bouctou for 2 nights in Jan 2009 by our travel agent (original booking elsewhere was cancelled for some unknown reason) just before the Festival in the Desert. Having originally been promised en-suites, we were shown two dirty rooms with foam mattresses on the floor, no window, and a fan, with dirty bathrooms along the corridor....

We stayed at Le Bouctou before and after the Festival in the Desert 2005 and it was a great base. It was comparatively cheaper than its equivalents in Timbuktu and a good place to meet up with locals. The staff were friendly. Locals hang around there but don't hassle you. The rooms upstairs are (weirdly) better than those downstairs but...
