My partner and I visited Hacienda Merida for one night and were very spot with our stay. We arrived having booked a dorm and very please rly surprised to find out that we had been upgraded to a private room as one was free. We ate lunch and dinner here and lived our meals. A Veggie and Chicken burger lunch...

The rooms with balconies overlooking the lake are exceptional, with great sunsets to watch, or sit on the dock as local fisherman test there skills. Kayaking to the estuary is easy from this location with very reasonable rental rates. The onsite restaurant provides fantastic food anytime of the day, and the beer is nicely chilled. All of this is for...

Others have covered the good and not so good at Hacienda Merida but for me the pier and lakefront view more than make up for the cold showers. Jump in the lake on a hot afternoon. Take a kayak to monkey island in the evening. Watch the sunset over the lake. Check out Volcan Concepcion in the morning

I think it has the best location in Merida but the place is a bit rundown, menu is not the best and regarding rooms I do think you will find better value other places in Merida. We had the top rooms not facing the water, and there was very little water in the shower, as such I used the public...

We stayed at Hacienda Merida in February and March of 2017. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food is divine (and healthly), and we have had a wonderful stay. The pier that extends into Lake Nicaragua is a great place for diving into the lake and swimming, sitting and reading or just watching the sunset....

A tranquil oasis with warm breezes, unbelievable sunsets, and good food, including ice cold beer for lazy afternoons in your hammock! Activities abound when you're inclined: horseback riding to a volcanic waterfall, kayaking to Monkey Island or the serenely beautiful Istvan River, hiking around two volcanoes, and fishing in Lake Nicaragua. Ester and Alvero are welcoming hosts who are happy...

We read that the owner was more interested in the school than the "hotel." And it's true. And, in the grand scheme of things, that's great. He and his team have done a wonderful job of bringing ecologically sustainable construction and education to an impoverished corner of the island. But I went there for accommodation, not education. So... we were...

Stayed 3 nights, room was simple but fine, large screened windows, great covered porch with rockers and a hammock for two. Two fans in the room, food at the restaurant was just ok, but there are options nearby. Sunsets are incredible.

We choose Hacienda Merida for it's location. We heard that the Merida part of the island near Maderas Volcano was much more remote and quieter than the main part of the island. It was! It was a 3 hour bus ride, or 1 hour taxi to reach. Most of the roads were paved, but became gravel closer to Merida. The...

The hostel is located very nicely directly on the lake which is pretty nice. We slept in a dorm which is also alright and the bathrooms are ok. They are quite clean, there are just some bugs which you cannot do something about. You can find quite a lot hammocks around and the whole hostel is like a little park....
