Kandy house was a terrific small hotel which we enjoyed very much. Our butler Ajantha couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable, even running the bath in the giant stone bathtub central to our room. Although the public spaces are small, there seem to be many nooks to sit and read or just laze about. The wifi is weak... More

This beautiful home has been restored so beautifully and our room was large with a huge bathing area behind a curtain. Our evening meal was beautiful and breakfast divine. Alas this was just a stopover for one night. Our host was very charming and the pool sublime with views overlooking a huge rice paddy. A shame to leave.

Stayed for 3 nights recently. It is a lovely hotel with delightful (and helpful) staff. The only downside was the tendency towards European food but on pointing out to the manager that we have not gone to Sri Lanka to eat European he instantly arranged for Sri Lankan food for our 2nd and 3rd nights - perhaps we should have... This was a wondeful few days. Comfortable and classy and surrounded by brilliant staff - we arrived way after lunchtime but were offered a meal straight away and the quality of food throughout was really top class. The gardens were splendid inspite of lots of rain - when we return can only hope its better weather.

Gorgeous little hotel a few miles from Kandy, tucked away in a lovely garden. Beautifully set out and with colonial details and furniture, lovely linens and great atmosphere in the evenings. Peaceful and totally charming. We will definitely visit again.

We stayed here in October 2014 while travelling Sri Lanka. It is a stunningly beautiful hotel full of character. The rooms are quirky but luxurious. Fantastic service, gorgeous swimming pool. If you're in Kandy don't miss out on a real treat.

We stayed here in october 2014 for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon. The journey from Colombo after an 11 hour flight was pleasant. The roads are good and well maintained so I would disagree with previous reports regarding the bumpy road. The hotel is absolutely stunning. The architecture is interesting and attractive. The room was enormous with a... More

This is the second boutique hotel of our trip to Sri Lanka. The small and stylish building constructed for the Minister of the Government of more than 200 years ago. The charm of this hotel captures us. Small, only 9 rooms, the hotel was for us an island of peace, rest and relaxation. When we arrived at the hotel we... More

We stayed at The Kandy House as part of our 3-week holiday to Sri Lanka and it really was a highlight. It was a beautiful hotel. Truly stunning. Interesting, comfortable rooms, great bedding, lovely outdoor verandah's off almost each room, delicious dining options and a lovely spa experience. All of these things would earn it a 5-star rating from me... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kandy House is a unique ancestral manor house (walauwa) providing seclusion and serenity for its guests in a lush, tropical garden setting, close to Kandy. With only 9 bedrooms, this Kandy hotel, aims is to give guests an experience of staying more in a private house than a conventional hotel. Traditional Kandyan architecture has been blended with Bawa-influenced modern, polished titanium cement floors and bathrooms. In the gardens, a stunning infinity pool has been landscaped into the hillside overlooking the rice paddy fields. Delicious European fusion and Sri Lankan cuisine is on offer. Well-placed to spend time to relax as well as explore a broad selection of Sri Lanka's primary destinations in the Cultural Triangle and Tea Country, including the Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The house can also be booked as a whole for important celebrations with friends, or just for the peace of mind of a group having total privacy away from the public eye. The Kandy House also makes an ideal honeymoon hotel in Sri Lanka, in a quiet peaceful setting, honeymooners can enjoy the infinity pool, private dining, yoga or massages. ... more   less
