I'm writing a handful of reviews of my favorite accommodations during my 6 months in India. I thought I'd honor the law of Karma and also write a review of my worst accommodation. I stayed away from Sudder St. my first visit in Kolkata. After coming back from Darjeeling I wanted to see what this area was all about. It...

One of the worst "hotels" I had in India. The management are very shifty. Uninterested in any complaints and unwilling to help in any way, and wanting payment up front in full. I had the unfortunate experience of having been shifted around no less than five rooms in four days. One of the moves was because of bedbugs. I asked...

A friend and I stayed here for three nights, it didn't ruin our trip, but I would never stay there again. Also, I became very sick with Bronchitis (for two weeks) after three nights of sleeping on that disgusting bed. Service was friendly and the person we dealt with spoke amazing English. On the other hand, they were incredibly inattentive...

This hotel has budget rooms (490R/-) and are well worth the price if you compare the rooms with the rooms available in other hotels/GH. The staff are most helpful and accommodating. The rooms are very good, clean, with towels, toilet tissue, shampoo and soap. It is worth it. I brought my friends (Indian and Western) here and they were happy....

I stayed in Kolkata for 6 weeks and ended up staying here for my last two. The 600 R was quite a bit more than I had budgeted for, but got sick of the bed bugs and cockroaches at my 2 previous places. I'm not picky, but want a place to be at least clean. In comparison I was really...

Similar story to previous posts. We contacted the establishment about our choice of room (@Rp600), and gave the requested 24 hours confirmation. On arrival we were shown to the room which we expected to be the one for the price we requested. When I returned to reception I was told the cost was 33% higher than what I had reserved....

I was in Kolkata for two months and mostly at this hostel. The staff was very friendly, even we were out one of the last nights to have a dinner together. It was a very difficult time for me when I was in India (a horrible experience and everything I tried to do somehow went wrong: typical diarrhea, problems at...

I have stayed at the Ashreen Guest House off and on over the last couple of months. I do think that it is one of the best options around Sudder Street but as it has been said in previous reviews they do not have a good reservation system. If you book in advance you are told to confirm 24hrs ahead...
