Located in the heart of the city close to shops etc, was a wonderful building, now sadly neglected and run down by the absent owner. A fantastic building in a great location is such a terrible place to stay. Very poor bathroom, very cheap furniture, depressing rooms. Our personal balcony had no view (ok we're in the middle of the...

I used to love the beergarden-like outdoor restaurant at Fairlawn Hotel. It attracted a mixed crowd and offered a laid back and almost historic setting for a cold beer after a long day of work or a shopping tour in the nearby markets. Unfortunately, this establishment has gone dry about six months and the clients seem to not have liked...

This hotel really has charme. Around every corner you can expect something new, all in detail, all adding to one big picture. The Queen is still alive here but got into a nice fusion with the City of Joy itself. Breakfast is great and just everything fits!

We arrived rather exhausted at 9.00 pm at night and shown to a ground floor room which was dirty and claustrophobic as we couldn't open a window. At 6.00 the next morning we were woken up by shouting outside our room which turned out to be a noisy argument between the manager and an unknown man. It was very unpleasant....

A gem of a hotel - in the heart of Kolkata .Nothing seems have changed in decades . Furniture painted, all whites and greens . Drinks in terrace bar with foliage, crows and sparrows and people coming and going . Photographs and fading newspaper cuttings everywhere . Marvellous . Must be seen , extraordinary . Comfortable large room with good bathroom....

This hotel may not be for everyone, but this was my third visit over the years and I loved it. You won't find deluxe accommodation but you will find a unique place to stay that's more like an English boarding house than anything else. Virtually unchanged since my first visit in 1975, it's still charming. Rooms and fixtures are adequate...

An island in noisy Kolkatta, quiet and Cosmopolitan, a place to come back to.. Confortable and clean although quite old fashioned – most people like it that way. Wonderful rooms (better in 2on floor!). Reception desk service could be better, however and the price is just a little too high considering place, sorroundings and state of repair. With a little...

Fantastic Hotel to explore this very important Indian mega-city. Staff is kind and helpful. For urban explorers this is a very god place to start. Free Wifi is great and the food is recommended. Interestingly Park Street is right around the corner. And the best museum. Within walking distance.

I visited The Fairlawn as I understood it was a little colonial gem. Whilst I waited for my friends to join me I wasn't allowed the Wi-Fi code so I couldn't communicate with my friends to see that they were running late. Unfortunately this beer garden no longer sells beer and when I asked for a tea instead they said...

I completely agree with the reviews below from UK visitors. this hotel is on his way out! I like heritage hotels ( we have been in very nice ones) but this is not well maintained at all! bathrooms are in real need of renovation. In our bedroom one window was not closing ( on an external terrace) they could not...
