Two nights stay in a imensely hot november in 2018. Stayed with my wife and 5 year old kid. Good rooms, comfortable and cozy, good water pressure and good A/C (thanks God!). Great breakfast with some variety on offer. Would surely return. Laundry service was perfect, although not cheap.
The building of the hotel is wonderful: a historic house in the middle of Chinatown. As the hotel is quite dated the comfort is of course not the same of a modern hotel but the experience has been very good. The breakfast was quite good and the room (we took the standard room) was adequate. Interesting also the small museum hosted in the hotel itself. Apart from the museum there are a lot of interesting objects and some nice open places.
Looks like nothing from the outside but cross the threshold and wow. Formerly a merchants home the house on and on from room to beautiful courtyard cafe to breakfast hall! Well decorated in style but cosy and comfortable. A/C in bedrooms and full spa available. Courtyard cafe with bar under shady palms and cooling but noisy waterfall. This ain't the Ritz but an authentic middle range hotel smack in the middle of old town where you can walk to everything.
We stayed for 3 nights in The Puri, which is in such a central position enabling us to walk to most places. The hotel is full of interesting artefacts and the courtyard is a green and shady spot to have a drink. Our room was at the back, it was clean and functional although dark. Breakfast was OK, but did lack selection. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. For the price I would say this is a very good choice.
Hotel Puri is recommended for those looking for a value-for-money stay in Melaka. It is very conveniently located in the heart of the old town - next to Jonker street and a short walk away from the river and Stadthuys/Christ Church. Rooms are very clean. The management is very efficient and they serve an excellent breakfast in their garden restaurant. The only point to note (especially for those with limited mobility) is that the rooms are at different levels and for some rooms you will have to negotiate a short flight of stairs.
