Fully restored since July 2015, Mori Residence is a boutique guesthouse combined with tea house hidden on a quiet street of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Malacca, namely Jalan Kampung Kuli. The many residents living along the street today are of sentimental value, constituting a very interesting neighborhood. “Mori” refers to the woods in Japanese, also translated as forest. The dominant element in the boutique guesthouse and tea house is wood to match its modern and heritage design. It has a total of five fully air-conditioned rooms, one of which has an attic as its distinctive feature. Each room comes with a private bathroom. The tea house on the ground floor is perfect for chilling over a cuppa in a comfortable environment. Our guests are also entitled for a session of free tea ceremony (during specific days and times only). The boutique guesthouse and tea house is only two-minute walk to Jonker Street (night market). It is located in close proximity to the major tourist attractions and famous eateries in Malacca, making it an ideal place for your family and friends to fully experience what the heritage city has to offer. FACILITIES • Air-conditioned room • Private bathroom with hot and cold shower • Complimentary in-room WiFi • Hairdryer upon request • Towels • Coffee, tea, biscuits, and alkaline water all day long (self-service) at shared pantry • Refrigerator and basic dishware at shared pantry • Cozy and spacious common area with sofas, rattan chairs and beanbags for relaxation • Garden with water features • Washing machine (surcharge apply, at Layang Layang Guest House) • Bicycles for rent (at Layang Layang Guest House) • Strategic location; 2-minute walk to Hard Rock Cafe and Jonker Street • We can help you to purchase ticket(s) and/or book taxi(s) for your next destination (prices and conditions depend on our agent)

We spent two days in Mori Residence and we felt really comfortable. It´s located in the backpacker area called Jonker in Melaka. The room was quite spacious and very clean. The common areas were clean and great! You can relax in the living room and you can find free tea, coffee and even cookies. The staff were very friendly and we also had dinner in the Vegetarian Restaurant. Dinner was great, we really loved the mushrooms soup and the omelette. The Chinese tea was really good. If you are staying in Mori Residence you can rent bicycle for free to explore the city.

We had a great diner in Mori Residence a couple of days ago! The couple owning the place is very friendly and the diner we had was amazingly good ! We recommend people to try the ginger vinegar soup (delicious !!!) and the Chinese teas (speciality of the house). The atmosphere is really comfortable and quiet, don't hesitate to discover this nice place!

Stayed with friends for the 2nd visit here. Last visit was 3 yrs ago under previous management of Guli Residence.

Stayed at the family room of 3 queen size beds which could accomodate 8 pax. Attached toilet was small with no ventilation.

There was a self pantry with drinking water and fridge.

All rooms were at level 2. Level 1 was the renovated veg resturant which was not opened yet. Keys were obtained from the guesthouse Layang Layang behind Mori which was 5 mins walk. Both guest houses were under the same management.

Mori was centrally located. HRC was about 5 mins away. Do try the chicken rice located near to HRC which starts at about 10 am - 3 pm.

Overall, a good value for money accomodation for about S$150/night.

We staying at Mori 3 and it was clean but there is a strange smell when we firstly stepped in to the room. The environment is quiet but the location is good for travellers as it located beside Jonker Street and most of the POI in Malacca. Recommended!

We stay at this residence for 2 days and we feel totally, extremely uncomfortable, we being treated badly the first day we reach there, we haven't step in to the restaurant and the service attendant doesn't treat us well, instruct us to do this and that, just because you don't have enough staff but that's your problem, we are customers not your maid. And we are being ask to be quiet by the service attendant because they are customer downstairs having dinner, we are customers too, she is being so rude to us. The day when we check out our car being purposely block for 30 min at the car park that they rent, when we ask for help they said they don't know and they call us asking us why we park there but you didn't tell us that we can't. This is the problem with Mori and the owner of the car park but now we are being affected, very very very bad service, we don't recommend anyone going there.

We stayed from 21 December to 22 December. The room we booked was big and had two levels. The rooms were spacious and allowed up to 4 queen and one single bed.

The staff were exceptional too just that you have to check in layang layang guest house which is a street down the road and they will give you warmth welcome.

On 21 December, when we arrived back to our hotel after walking the streets. We were treated to one of the best home made ah balling as it was the festive season to have some.

Location wise is good as well because it is at jonker street so you can get to places easily from the hotel. You can get to east & west rendezvous which sells delicious nonya dumpling easily which is just down the street as well as the famous chicken rice balls stall. They do provide a map for you to explore the different places just let them know you would like one.

Let's not forget layang layang guest house also provides bicycles for rent @ 5rm just in case you would like to travel the city convinently.

For sure we will be back if we ever return to Melaka as the hotel has made a good impression on us!

what about parking for cars ?
Answer from team_layanglayang
Melaka, Malaysia16 contributions4 helpful votes
Thank you Eva R for answering. Hello pang w, you can search for an empty parking lot along the streets, which are fully occupied on weekends and any peak and super-peak seasons. Alternatively, you can drop your luggage at our place and then proceed to look for the parking areas where they charge a fee per entry. The parking areas are only about 5-minute walk from our place. Hope this information helps! :)
