Eastern Heritage is an old school guesthouse 10 minutes away from the historic district of Malaka. I have stayed there twice in past month and would return again. It's a very old house, so don't expect loads but if you aren't into fancy hostels you won't be dissapointed. My room (number 6) was spacious and had a big window overlooking...

As I came off the bus at the bell tower this English lady asked if I wanted a room. I did not have any reservations so I walked with her to see the guesthouse. While walking she was giving me a guided tour along the streets and was very informative. The guesthouse is dark end run down, old, no airco,...

1. easy access to Jonker walk 2. cheap 3. the owner and the Dutch lady is very informative and friendly. The lady gave me and my parents bread before we left early in the morning to catch up the bus to Kuala Lumpur. They are also talkative and full of knowledge. We discussed many things abut Indonesia and Africa. 4....

A beautiful house with big painted rooms with high ceilings. Only fan rooms that share one toilet and one shower. No aircon, no attached bathrooms. The toilet and shower are ugly but everything functions. No toilet paper, so bring your own. Noise could be a problem since the street is busy, the walls are thin and there are nets over...

Great place, great people! Especially Elisabeth, who is very dynamic and always ready to share her knowledge of the area (places to eat, things to see, museums, etc.). She speaks more that 6 languages and travelled the world for decades! Nice room with a fan and paintings on the walls. Shared bathroom ok. Laundry service: very convenient. Loved it!

The hits: Good location, within walking distance to Jonker St. Breakfast was a valiant attempt, I applaud them for managing to juggle feeding their guests in such a small dining area but it is quite charming actually. The misses: Decor tried to be in keeping with the old Melaka feel but ended up feeling a bit creepy and dark. I...

Located at a former noble house this is a place full of charm and atmosphere, complete with a small indoor pool, within walking distance of the center but in a street that is quiet enough. Talk to one of the owners, Mr. Yen, for tips on places to go, lessons on Asian history or just plain good conversation. Jaime and...

The guys running the hostel are really nice and helpful but the place is in definite need of some tlc, and maybe a woman's touch. I stayed in the dorm on my own when there was a thunder storm and it was a bit eery. The place is set in a fantastic building and surrounded by cheap and good restaurants....

Wonderfully clean, rustic hotel with a halcyon, timeless charm. The bedrooms are an excellent size, the mattresses firm, and the owner, Yen, is genuinely kind-hearted man. We were, both of us, sorry to leave. Megan and Greg

We arrived late in the evening at Melaka Central bus station and a friendly man offered us a room in his guest house. After checking the rather not favourable Lonely Planet review of the place, we decided to check it nonetheless (after many horrible well reviewed places all around south east asia). The owner organised us a taxi for a...

“Take number 8 if you are with your couple and ask for an extra table for the terrace and some tea on the morning. If you are travelling solo and on a budget, dorm is the cheapest in town, but singles are also good value.”
