i turned up unexpectadly at sala and serus eco lodge and had a thoroughly enjoyable seven days being fed delicious food and sleeping in an airy room by the beach.i felt like one of the family and feel i made a friend in sala as we walked up the big hill on the road and talked of life as women do.i am going back next year to this beautiful clean unspoilt place where you can snorkle in the clear water and eat your breakfast lunch and tea under the coconut trees while gazeing at the sea.its so quiet and peaceful i read books from the lodge and was happy and relaxed.well done sala and sreu and bui sivoni and billy and sala lailai.may you be well and happy always.

What a fantastic place! Everything you need to relax and really chill out. Sala and Seru look after you well, feed and water you and make sure you are happy. The freshly caught fish was amazing. There is a beach about twenty paces from the cottage where you can sit and watch the fabulous sunsets. A not to be missed experience.
This is not a 5 star hotel experience, this is Fiji at its basic best.

This place was perfect. The two negative reviews this place recieved clearly have alterior motives and should be ignored completely. I was going to stay 2 nights and I stayed for 5 I had that much fun. You are treated incredibly well by the hosts and I stayed in one of the cottages which was nice and well kept.

I went on a bush trek, beach walk with billy boy and his mate, and on two different snorkeling/fishing trips managed to sea a pair of whales and a shark. The snorkeling trips cost less than going to an aquarium and are awesome. As is the hospitality - we were treated to Kava sessions most nights and they even put on a Lovo feast when two of the other guests were leaving. You can sit around and have a chat with them whenever and I was always made to feel welcome, especially at meal times. The local boys from the village also came and joined in and we always had a good chat with plenty to talk about... Sleep quality excellent as well although this was due to the Kava.

If you want to stay at Wakaya Island for 5k per night go for it but you will have alot more fun here. All in all with meals, accomodation and 2 trips over 5 days I spent the same amount here as I did with one night at the soulless Novotel in Nandi...

Do not believe the negative reviews, they are just bitter about life.

If you are looking for all mod cons in a pristine environment and a sun-lounger by the pool, this is not for you. If you are looking for warmth and laughter, an authentic experience of living as your hosts do, beautiful surroundings, simple yet delicious food freshly picked or caught close by, and a family who will do all they can to make your stay happy and memorable, then choose Silana. Go with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is and where it is. When you go you will leave a little bit of your heart behind!

We cant wait to go back!
Im not sure where to start...the accommodation had everything we needed, kayaking, snorkeling (the sea life was breathtaking), gorgeous white beaches. Real Kava. We even got to sit in on the meka and take a tour of the local village. Everyone was very genuinely friendly. The kids still ask when we can go back. Was also very safe for the children, and they had so much to keep them entertained. We also took the truck to levula, strolled round the town and had a lovely lunch at one of the cafes....i could go on and on...Silana really is a must stay if you want to experience the real Fiji.

This was our second visit to Silana, and once again we were welcomed into the family.

During our week-long stay we relaxed on the beach, went snorkelling, played New Years games with the local kids from the village, learnt how to make coconut oil, drank coconut water, were invited to the kava ceremony in the village, had cooking lessons and ate so much wonderful fresh Fijian food! We absolutely loved our stay at Silana.

Seru, Sala and all the family completely welcomed us back and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. We truly feel like we have a family in Fiji for when we return again. Staying at Silana is staying in the real Fiji.

We stayed in the self contained family cottage which was perfect. It has its own bathroom and shower, kitchenette with a fridge and power. Everything was simple, and very clean and we even had our own local guard dog (we miss you Boxer!).

We would highly recommend staying at Silana.

It was a pleasure and an honour to meet this lovely family. We had excellent boat rides to the off shore reef with amazing fishing and snorkeling - with the fish cooked to perfection when we returned! The walk Seru takes your through the village and gardens is interesting and informative as well as picturesque! We went for a day trip to Silana and ended up returning the next day for more fishing, swimming, bilibili paddling and delicious local food. The kava and sing along was another added bonus! It was great meeting the whole family, and especially Billy - the star of two stories written by NZ author Jill MacGregor. We can fully recommend this experience.

My girlfriend and I visited Silana about six times while we were in Ovalau. We had planned to stay two days and in the end we spent more than two weeks travelling around the old town of Levuka and surrounding areas. We were told by the friendly staff at the museum that Silana was where would find the better snorkeling in the area, and so we travelled there by local truck the next day. We were made so welcome by Sala and her daughter Kasa that we soon felt like members of the family, and couldn't stay away- we kept coming back again and again. We went fishing on bamboo rafts, learned how to make roti and curried paw-paw, made coconut toffee and watched Seru's incredible lovu. However, the best part of visiting Silana was not only the insight into Fijian culture and the amazing food cooked for us each day by Kasa, but the friendliness and company of Sala and Seru's wonderful family. Silana is a true paradise, where the frenetic pace of real life fades away and you can truly relax. It feels like home, and after just one day there, you'll never want to leave.

I spent my Christmas and New Year's week here. The owners quickly introduced me to the village nearby and let me take part in a week long traditional fijian celebration of the holidays. It was a very intense magical cultural experience. I have traveled around the world and never before did I get this close to a remote native community. I made some great friends thanks to the way Sala continuously kept inviting me to all the local event. Vinaka Sala!
