We are staying with a group from Overseas Adventure Travel. Accommodations are excellent, and the beds are very comfortable. Very fine breakfast included in morning - wide variety of Chinese and Western choices at buffet. Surprisingly good coffee. Wi-Fi is excellent, and there is a small refrigerator and tea in the room. Be warned. This is the first major hotel...

Booked this hotel because we flew in a few days early before meeting up with our tour group in Shanghai. This was the hotel the tour group used and we thought we'd make it easier by not having to move. The lobby people were friendly but had to search to find a desk manager who spoke English. The carpet on...

The rooms were nice, good view over the city. The location was okay. We used Uber to get around but it was a little walk from the subway. There are a lot of renovations going on but it looks like once they finish it could be a really nice hotel! Buttons on the elevator we covered with what looked like...

It was hard to find as it is a good 15 minute walk from the subway station. Direction will be provided below. The hotel is currently undergoing renovation. My room was one of the renovated ones. Gone are the carpet in the room. Room was spacious. Bed was comfortable. You get two bottles of drinking water every day. Except for...

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I did not like the standard room which I booked online so I requested to upgrade when I was checking-in. The staff gave me a room on the 21st floor which was recently renovated with everything brand new. The WIFI worked all the time and the speed was descent. Get the upgraded rooms...

Our group stayed in 8 rooms for several days. The location is good, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the complimentary breakfast was wonderful. The WiFi was weak in the rooms, but strong in the lobby.

Short term stay of 4 nights at this hotel. Didn't hold great expectations as it was only about $43Aud/night but was surprised with outcome. Pro's: Stayed on the 17th floor and the rooms where clean and has plenty of storage. Decent bed. Friendly service. Our room had a great view looking straight towards the Oriental Pearl Tower. I stayed there for 6 days in June 2011. It was ordered by our Chinese factory and therefore no one really understood what my problem was. The Hotel Stuff made an upgrade to the 20th floor with stunning view for the NEW city (when there is no fog – and most of the time there is fog) The location is...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
