We booked a private room, and it was great, clean and had a good shower. All in all we were really happy staying there as a base to explore the city. Staff were helpful. Obviously it's not a flash place, but as long as you are not too precious, it will serve you well.

We are quite suprise with all the negative reviews as we did not have a single problem staying nor did we hear any other guest complain. We stayed at this hostel in a private room for 3 nights initially and was so happy that we returned for another 5 nights the 2nd time we were in Shanghai. The room was...

Only thing good about this place was the location.. less than a 10 minute walk to both the bund and nanjing xi lu station. And staff were pretty nice. Buuuuut. The room insulation was terrible, the floor was freezing, and the heater didn't work properly, most of the time it only blew out cold air. And the hot water was...

The reception offered me 60RMB discount if I left a 5 star review. Beware of other false reviews for this hostel. My experience.. I've traveled China including regional areas for 1 month total and found this hostel to be a typical budget Chinese hostel. I stayed in a 10 bed dorm room and found there to be little atmosphere but...

Location is about the only positive I can think of in trying to put together a review of the property. Staff were rude and unprofessional; they mistakenly listed me as a 'no show' despite me having checked in, so I'd paid upfront as well as being charged the "no-show" fee. They laughed at me when I brought it to their...

Room was really good for the price and the staff were helpful and friendly! Location good too. The big deal breaker for us was the smell of the room - it smelt like raw sewage. The smell was coming from the bathroom and made the whole room stink. It was so bad we were afraid to even use the bathroom!...

I am a 22 year old Brit who stayed here on my own in a single room. When I first arrived I got allocated a room that was small, smelt of sewage and had many bugs on the wall. I was super unimpressed! But, I changed rooms immediately and got a much better deal. This room was clean, smelt of...

The room & common spaces were super dirty! We entered into the room and they had left some wet dirty towels as well! Floors had a lot of bugs and our window had a trash bean view & smell! Generally, the hygiene of this hostel reached the very worst we had seen in China! Staff was friendly but it wasn't...

Stayed for one night when we stayed in Shanghai. The hostel is well located near the bund. The price is ok and one of the less expensive places near the bund. Our room ( 2 person private room ) was clean and had a soft bed. Wifi in the rooms Thin walls so you hear everything in the hallway.

Nice central location, cleanliness and service slightly sub par, less foreigners than hostels in other countries creates its own unique atmosphere. Not as nice as the rating suggested when I booked but I keep my expectations low as you should.

Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
