The hotel is located right on Nanjing West amidst lots of luxury shops and bright street lights. We felt very safe staying there even while taking late night strolls.

Service, view, location, overall standard are really outstanding here. The hotel was probably among the very best in Shanghai until 10 years or so ago and now has a slightly dated feel. This shouldn't impact anyone's experience but if you are able to consider other...More
this hotel is in a very good location in Shanghai, however if you are coming for business then most likely you will be traveling to both sides of the river and in this case Pu-dong is a much better choice.

The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same
quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

Well, there are whole bunch of restaurants within walking range. Having steak in hotel would be the last thing I want to do. I'm not saying the restaurants in hotel are bad, just you might want to explore something more authentic Chinese. You might want to try Din Tai Fung that sells Chinese style Xiao Long Bao and dumplings. Just walk through the main entrance of the hotel, turn right, that restaurant is right behind Starbucks. Try to practice your skills using chopsticks. :)
