I usually use this page to compare hotels in a city and felt safe after seeing that in 2013 it received an award of excellence from Tripadvisor (which I also saw at the reception). This hotel defnitly needs a total renovation and does not justify the price! The bathrooms are really badly mantained, You can see that things are just...

I was in shanghai for a night and stayed at the jc mandarin. It was a nice big room but didn't really have a homey feel. The bed was very hard and the bathroom lighting was very dim. The rooms were aged. It was in the heart of the shopping district but far away from other attractions like the bund....

The JC Mandarin is not going to be a hotel much longer. Within the next year or so, it is going to be turned into an office building. While it is starting to show its age, it is still a fairly nice hotel. The best thing it has going for it is the breakfast buffet. It is far and away...

We stayed there for 3 nights as part of a travel package for our tour throughout china this was the most run down of the hotels we stayed at,out of 5 hotels during our trip. When people say that its older they mean run down, the lobby looks like the only thing keep up. For our room a king is...

I was visiting Shanghai on a group trip, so I did not get to chose this hotel, but I liked it! The lobby is beautiful and spacious (although it doesn't have enough seating). The hotel room was spacious, with a nice bathroom and pretty views of the fancy neighborhood. The room did seem a little dated, but everything was very...

The location is good as it is very close to my office. It's easy to find food and transporation in the proximity. I have stayed there for a few times. The rooms on the lower floors are older. It is better to choose upper floors. Breakfast is good with a wide array of selections though it is not delicate. Special...

We were in Shanghai on business and the JC Mandarin was suggested to us by local contacts. What a great choice, we stayed for 7 nights and loved every moment. The hotel, whilst being older then many is friendly and the rooms are very comfortable and spotless top to bottom and not too big to be impersonal. Breakfast is a...

I stayed 8 nights in October. The room was reasonably nice but you could definitely see some wear and tear. Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

“There is a small (okay, TINY) convenience store about one block from the hotel. Exit the front door and turn to your right, staying on the right side on Nanjing Road. Go to the next intersection that has a stop light and cross. The store is the second door and has a brightly lit sign when open. You can find sodas, water, snacks and sweets as well as sundry items like Superglue (6 RMB, which we know because we used sign language to ask for what we wanted.). Owner is very friendly. ALWAYS carry the hotel card which also has a bunch of other locales printed on it in English and Chinese. They are really useful if you get lost.”
