This guesthouse is perfect for those looking for a relatively cheap but safe and good quality accommodation. The guesthouse is inhabited by many international students and has a lively and friendly atmosphere. The staff are lovely and the rooms are in good condition. There is a tv air conditioning and bathroom and toilet in each room. No fridge in the...

This is not a hotel. The staff here are rude and unhelpful. They do not care about cleaning. The lifts don't work properly so you can get stuck inside for 5-10mins until it decides to work again. There are a lot of foreign students staying here and tend to all hang out in the lobby as it's the only place...

I stayed here for more 6 weeks last summer. This campus is close to underground station, there are a lot of chinese restaurant very cheap, but if you miss your country you can eat hamburger and chips or not bad italian food. In the sisu's canteen i never eat, i think is not really good. The campus is very good...

I think this hotel is worthless. Worst service i ever get. Worst facilities i ever saw. They have poor roomservice, kitchen, washing machine. Even though you paid that much, You can't ask for changing bed sheet. Please. I recommand you not to stay here. Do not waste your money and travelling mood at this terrible hotel.

If you plan to stay here as a student, I strongly recommend not to. I was skeptical at first when I read all those bad comments, but now I know better... Single room is 160 yuans / night which makes it 4800 a month!! For that price you can rent a very very nice and big apartment outside for your...

I have now stayed twice at the SISU Guest house or hotel. In 2012 it was recently renovated and it was relatively clean and attractive. In 2013 one can already see the deterioration of the premises. It is worth considering if the price for the transient guest (I am not talking about students spending the whole semester) is very reasonable...

If you are a student looking for a place to stay for a semester, please rent a hotel for the first few nights and look for an apartment. You will regret staying in the Guesthouse for a long time. I have stayed in the Guesthouse for a semester and I am not happy about it. First of all, it is...

I spent 6 weeks in the guesthouse. It could of been a whole lot better. They don't speak English at the front desk. Its very hard to talk with them. They don't offer anything for your bathroom (soap, towels, tissue). The internet sucks and there is no Wi-Fi. The maid comes once a week and they hardly clean anything, no...

I spent about 1 month in this guesthouse and I'm not happy with it. The staff was busy, no problem, but either unfriendly or ignorant. If you have questions they don't feel responsible or better: they don't know what to do. Chinese speaking foreigners should try to listen what they say in Chinese to each other, might be helpful... The...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
