Stayed there for 3 nights. Large rooms, private little balcony, next door to a big shopping street, few minutes walk to the underground station, 5 minutes walk to pick up a big bus tour around the city and 10 mins walk to the river front with a beautiful view of the financial district. Loads of local good restaurants around too.... More

I stayed at the Nanjing hotel for a conference in the business district opposite the river. The location is perfect. The metro is just around the corner and I got anywhere I wanted to go very easily (also because of the excellent metro system). My main problem with this hotel was the smell! I was first put in a smoking... More

The hotel charges about 300RMB per night and offers a disount for a stay of 3 nights and above. The hotel is less that a minutes walk from Nanjing road, the shoppers paradise. Exotic fruits are available just outside the hotel (Like Oversized Litchis). The Bund is about a 10minute walk from the hotel. Its a lovely night view of... More

Hotel is in a good location, not far from the mall “walking street” with lots of shops and restaurants. A couple minutes walk north on same street as hotel there is a small fruit grocer shop. Using the mall, easy walk to the Bund and Peoples Square, Shanghai Museum etc. The subway is 2 minute walk from hotel. Nanjing Road... More

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. At 5 AM EVERY DAY THEY SHUT OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER. When we complained to the reception 2 most rude & obnoxious lady MS Jin Jiang & MS Lu Yi told us to open the windows and when we opened the windows, horrible rotten Chinese smell and hundreds of mosquitoes entered our room. The... More

I booked a room on arrival, the price of 300rmb for 2 people per day. Very good location, the staff speak good English (compared to other hotels in China) but are a bit rude (like most Chinese) Medium size rooms, no dryer and wifi. I believe as they provide value for money regardless of the location.

The Nanjing Hotel is right off of the pedestrian street, Nanjing Road, which is full of throngs of strollers enjoying the ambiance. You cannot find a more perfect landing spot in Shanghai. Nanjing road has numerous department stores and other shops. Across the street from the hotel are half a dozen holes-in-the-wall restaurants serving delicious Chinese food. A street level... More

I've stayed here a few times now and the place has improved. What is constant is the paucity of consideration for guests. Asked for a non smoking room - got one on the quiet side of the hotel but no fridge. Asked for a fridge and was told you only get fridge in the smoking rooms - so accepted that... More

This hotel is only a step away from Nanjing road and about 10 min walk from the bund. Rooms are comfortable but crowded with furniture, air conditioning wasnt working which made things uncomfortably hot in the room. Bathrooms are adequate. No wifi! Its all about the location though, plus for cheap cocktails and wifi you can go down the road... More

Lovely rooms with all the modern comforts you would hope to get and a great location, 100 meters from the main shopping street and only a short walk to the bund, people's square and a tube station right around the corner. Shanghai itself very busy but a good experience.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
