Mingtown is well situated, close to the metro and many tourist attractions. The bathrooms are TINY, and often did not have toilet paper. Definitely no hand washing soap at any time. The staff never offered any assistance with getting around or suggestions on what to see, and at times some members barely spoke English. I gave it a 3/5 because... More

Wow. Beautiful courtyard and overlooks a kindergarten. We loved this place. Needs a few repairs here and there and some staff members were disinterested. For all the minor complaints people may have of this place, ultimately this is a haven for budget-minded travellers looking to explore shanghai. In a city with such astronomical real estate prices, I'm frankly baffled how... More

This hostel has a great location - right next to people's square and line 2 train station! Staff can speak English well and it has great facilities including food and drinks throughout the day! Only downside - you have to make your own bed - you're given sheets and pillowcase on arrival which can be bothersome if you arrive at... More

My partner and I had read about Etour in The Lonely Planet guide before our trip to Shanghai. The location was second to none and we had high hopes for quality, budget accommodation. Whilst the décor and ambience lived up to expectations, there were some serious snags which really let the place down. First, we’d booked a double room, which... More

The perfect location - close to the people's square metro, easy to find, main attractions including bund within walking distance. We were staying in a couple room, four of which shared two showers, one toilet and one sink.

Excellent location, on a quiet street right next to the People Square subway station (exit 11). Well-managed hostel, cleaning staff always keeping the place in neat condition. Very nice common area / café / bar / restaurant, serving big breakfast and pretty good coffee. Female staff working the reception were helpful and friendly and used good judgement. Super slow wifi.... More

Hostel was very cute, a little hard to find on the street, but we did get there after it was dark. Hostel sign is on the side and doesn't stick out onto the street, but is right at the bend in the street. We only stayed for one night due to a flight change and layover, but it was very... More

Mingtown Etour Hostel has dramatically raised rates since the 2015 edition of Lonely Planet China. We showed up midweek in May 2016 expecting a dorm bed to be ¥50 and a double without/with bathroom to be ¥160/260. Actual rates are ¥90 for a dorm and ¥240/320 for a double without/with bathroom. ...it's a pretty decent hostel with a good location,... More

Stayed for a night in a female dorms, eventhough there is a problem on airconditioner, they fix it right away after I made a complaint. Nice, quiet and hidden place. The indoor interior looks creative with the small ponds. Place is clean and the area nearby to attractions place via metro.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.

“Third floor has a nice view toward Pudong, but bathrooms are cooler. First and second floors are more enclosed, so the bathrooms are warmer, though the first floor gets the most foot traffic. Any room is probably just as well.”
