Amazing location and atmosphere for the price! I stayed here for three nights in a double room by myself (I had to pay for two people) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was clean and had a great atmosphere (charming choices in the hallways, rooms, and restaurant/courtyard area to show culture and history). It is on a little side street... More

Aside from the fact that it is a bit pricy for a youth hostel (265 RMB for a double room with shared bathroom), the place is great. The setup is fantastic with great decor. The room was very clean and had everything necessary. Weary of the shared bathroom we soon realized it wasn't a problem at all, it was spotless... More

Excellent cozy hostel. Nice staff and loads of activities. Great location . Pricey food for a hostel , but loads of cheap local eats around!

stayed here for a few nights. A great location for a brief trip to Shanghai as it's so central, however do not stay if you're allergic to cats as there are 2 hostel cats which are always lurking around and stinking up the place - good if you like cats of course! but im bias as im allergic. The reception... More

Good choice overall. i got a private room on the 2nd floor. Given the price (250Y), it was surprisingly large and came with an arm chair, TV, towels and reading desk. The common areas were nicely furnished and designed. It was a bit noisy from my room until midnight - not so good if you plan to go to bed... More

We picked this hostel because it was highly recommended by a friend who had lived there for two months. It absolutely exceeded our expectations. The location is awesome (right next to People's Square Park and the metro stop), the staff is extremely helpful and nice and the room was better than any hostel we stayed at in South America or... The location is ok...pretty far from the subway but taxis are cheap enough in Shanghai so we decided to do that after the first day. The building doesn't look like much from the outside but the design is quite modern and nice inside. However, it smells moldy and didn't seem too clean. The shower in our private room was awful... my hubby & I visited some friends in china. We decided to go to shanghai for a weekend. Honestly I was hesitant to stay in a hostel, we wanted to stay in a nice hotel but our friends convinced us that it was not worth to pay much just for sleeping. Before we checked in, we asked to see the... More

If you're looking to go to Shanghai and are doing it on a budget, this is an excellent option given both its price and the location, which was very close to Renmin Square (on a small side street next to the Marriot). In general it was pleasant and the front desk staff were very helpful and the other guests a... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.

“Third floor has a nice view toward Pudong, but bathrooms are cooler. First and second floors are more enclosed, so the bathrooms are warmer, though the first floor gets the most foot traffic. Any room is probably just as well.”
