We used Pura Vida as our first and last port of call in Costa Rica and are so glad we did. It's location is perfect being a 15 minuteish taxi ride (when it is quiet) away from the airport. Having run into some transit visa issues on our departure or non departure from Heathrow airport we arrived a day late...

Been here about 30 times or more over ten years as in laws live nearby. Lots of variety across rooms, all with interesting features which will cause guests perhaps to prefer one to another---I am happy anywhere as all have lounging area outside with views of mountains or the landscaped grounds. Some have more space, microwaves, extra bathrooms, and so...

Be whisked away from SJO to the beautifully tended gardens of this oasis in the hills. Berni is the most helpful innkeeper ever. Nhi is the best chef, and Jose, who has been there for 20 years, is at your service con mucho gusto. Though we stayed at a pricier resort during our stay,Nhi's cuisine and presentation is far superior.Think...

We found Berni and Nhi's beautiful hotel in a Costa Rican travel book. And now I can't believe how lucky we were to get a room for our arrival and departure dates. Pura Vida offers exactly what you need when you fly into an unknown country in the evening. Berni sets you up with a driver and you are only...

If you are willing to check your ego and preconceived notions at the door , you can not do much better than to book a stay at the charming boutique hotel Pura Vida. It will serve you well as a gateway for further explorations in Costa Rica. For my wife and I our stay at Pura Vida worked on several...

We stayed in the Mariposa Suite, with two bedrooms. Just right for us, as we were traveling with our 13 year old grandson. Nhi's dinner was amazing and delicious - the best of our trip - truly outstanding. The beds were comfortable and the dogs were great entertainment. Most important, we had an emergency early in the morning (I won't...

We stayed at Pura Vida Hotel our first and last nights or our vacation. Our first night we stayed in the Toucan Casita and our last night Berni upgraded us to the Katydid Casita for free. The Toucan Casita was nice for our our family of 4 but the Katydid Casita was much more spacious and beautiful. Both rooms were...

It was my very first travel to CR and my very first night in this beautiful country. I took the free taxi ride from the airport to the hotel which was paid by the hotel. I arrived 2 hours late at 11pm and Nhi (one of the owners) was waiting for me and gave me a warm welcome and took...

A lovely garden oasis just 10-15 minutes from the airport. I stayed in the Rainforest Suite on both sides of a recent trip. It is spacious with all the amenities you could want or need. My favorite was a real coffee pot with good Costa Rica coffee (vs. little paper packages of coffee & minuscule often found in hotels). The...

You know you’re in trouble when a hotel provides free earplugs in every room. I’ve stayed around Times Squares, just off Bourbon Street, and in downtown Jakarta, and I’ve never been in a place as noisy as this. It’s in a busy residential-business area on a very busy highway, and the lack of air-conditioning means you have to sleep with...
