LOCATION: We ended up in this hotel because it was part of a Groupon package. It is not in the main town, but it is a short $5 car ride to La Fortuna (in no way walkable in case you wondered) and it is really easy to coordinate transportation with the Hotel's help. The surrounding area is a rural area and there are two small mini markets (5 mins walking) to buy essentials, snacks and booze! These stores, the hotel, everywhere in La Fortuna accept credit card payments... Other than going to these stores, I don't foresee anyone doing anything in this area except staying at the hotel. ROOM: It's a no frills type of place, with rooms that are big and clean. The AC units are tiny but work perfectly well. The mini-fridge was great and used during our whole stay, HOTEL: The

First time in Costa Rica, and walking into the manicured lush tropical grounds of this small, intimate hotel I knew it would be all that I hoped it would be. There's a rushing river at the back of the property, coconut palms, orange trees... Just a feast for the eyes. First thing when we checked in, Rudy told us about breakfast and dinner times and coincidentally there was a staff Christmas dinner the next night that we were invited to attend (no charge). Also while we were there it was the owner Miguel's wife's birthday, and we were invited to join their party. Just super hospitality at every turn. The rooms are pretty sparse compared to typical US hotel, but there is a TV if you feel the need to be inside at all, and there is free WiFi everywhere on property. My wife and I

Went to Costa Rica to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and we were greeted by Rudy as if we just got home! The hotel is the perfect getaway, located next to a river, filled with trees and flowers, hammocks to rest, a refreshing pool, very nearby all the activities and downtown. The rooms are kept clean, and are very spacious. Breakfast was included and was delicious, you get fruit, coffee, natural juice, and can pick between their typical meal which is rice with black beans, eggs, fried plantain and bread, or omelettes or pancakes [the typical plate was delicious, Andrea the cook did her thing]. She also cooked some other plates for us during our stay, which were very reasonable in price, great portion, and very tasty. Their hospitality went above and beyond, we got to meet

Part of the Adrenaline Tour package I bought, this is a nice and quiet hotel located about 4 miles from La Fortuna downtown. The owner, Miguel, was on-site everyday taking care of his guests. The entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel site was very clean and well kept. There are some wildlife around the river that runs behind the hotel - I really enjoyed seeing and listening to the blue jean poison dart frogs with a cup of coffee in the morning. Although not really walkable to downtown, Uber is about 5 dollars.

We stayed at Lavas as the included hotel with Adrenaline Tours of Costa Rica(see review) . This small hotel was nestled in the rainforest 5 minutes from La Fortuna. The owner, Miguel immediately takes you in and treats you as his own family. In 15 years of traveling I can’t say we have ever been treated so well. The hotel had WiFi which was important in posting the adventures we went on daily. The hotel includes breakfast from a small menu but is quite delicious. Walking the grounds is like walking on a farm to table estate with all the papaya, avocado, sweet lemon, almond, coconut trees. Just on these grounds you might see macaws, tree frogs, leaf cutter ants, lizards, vine snakes and of course the resident dog Mia, the active cattle dog who follows Miguel around faithfully.

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon while doing a tour with Adrenaline. Miguel is so friendly and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. We had breakfast everyday at the hotel and everything was excellent. There are hammocks along the river and it's so relaxing to sit outside and listen to the river. There is an abundance of wildlife and Miguel always calls you over to see what he finds. It's peaceful and just ten minutes outside town. Close enough you can go in for dinner but just enough out of the way that you can relax. I didn't want to leave.

Hotel Lavas del Arenal was the perfect hotel for my husband and I. We were greeted by the owner, Miguel, with fresh coconuts and were immediately stunned by the landscape. The flowing river in the back of the property gives the perfect background sound of water for a relaxing stay. We were treated like family the entire time. The room was kept very clean, as well as the common areas. Pool tables were available as well to enjoy during our free time while we weren’t on the comfortable hammocks throughout the property. The food was absolutely delicious every single day, and very well priced. Perfect spot to stay for families or couples for a relaxing vacation. Already planning to come back to stay at Hotel Lavas del Arenal with the whole family. Highly recommend, five stars!

When we arrived to the hotel, we were given our keys, informed about breakfast and time to meet up the next day. The room was very nice and complimented the beautiful and expansive resort very well. We knocked out immediately. The food at the hotel was very delicious and the restaurant staff where very accommodating to any changes we requested during breakfast and dinner. On my birthday the owner of the hotel threw and amazing birthday barbeque for my friends and I. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got this hotel through a Groupon tour so we didn't quite know what to expect. Hotel was very clean with the grounds kept very nice. There is a pool and lots of hammocks to relax on. There's is a creek out back that's also cool to relax by. Their dog Mia was always there to greet us every time we came back :-) (our favorite part lol) We returned to a clean room everyday. Breakfast every day was good! We went into town for dinner most nights because dinner menu choices weren't very broad. It was about $20 round trip to get into town. The owner was very nice and always willing to help us with anything we needed. We were in room 23, where we often lost power and wifi. The room also had a damp smell to it. I'm not sure if that's a normal Costa Rica thing, or if the room has been

A beautiful hotel, situation half way up a bumpy road! Prepare for the ride in! Free Costa Rican massage lol. All in all, a wonderful experience with Rudy and his crew. Great, hearty breakfast every morning. Clean room when we returned in the evening and AC to keep us comfortable through the night. This is my wife’s second stay and there will likely be a third when we bring more people back!
