1. Staff was amazing! They were helpful, giving suggestions about which tour companies were trustworthy, and what things you can do without a tour company, to save money. Especially Joe & Diego - these guys knew everything that was going on. 2. Bartender was great - every drink we tried was amazing! Especially the welcome drink, and the berry love... More

This hostel isn't really a hostel. It's way better. For $15 you get a lot. The dorm was great, super clean and the showers and loos were in the room which was great, no other hostels I've stayed in have had that. The space is also great, there are loads of trees and hammocks, a cute little pool, very tranquil... More

I had a fantastic stay here - the rooms were pristine and comfortable, the outdoor space, pool bar and kitchen were wonderful to relax in and to meet new friends, and the staff were incredibly helpful. Joe especially went out of his way to give us the best possible experience, imparting advice on both paid and free activities. I honestly... More

I liked a previous review titled 'the good, the bad and the ugly". I agree with everything but I will mention more good things. If I go to Fortuna again, I think I would repeat. I've been travelling for three months and I think it is really worth the money. Good. Staff are nice but not all of them. Joe... More

Had an amazing time visiting La Fortuna and we were really pleased with the accommodations at Arenal Hostel Resort. Overall the dorm room was fine, pretty average for backpacker expectations. The garden area and kitchen space made up for any negatives in the sleeping department. There are a bunch of hammocks and a couple tables with palapa-style coverings. Plus a... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights last week in a private room. We had an upstairs room furthest away from the bar which was great because it was quiet. The room was large and spacious and very clean. The first shower I took the water was FREEZING, but after that it was warm-ish. Wifi was fast an... More

This was Lonely Planets top choice (Centralamerica on a shoestring) but didn´t really live up to that. The dorms are very cramped, there is no space to hang/dry your clothes - in an enviroment which is constantly humid. There are only 4 sockets- in a room for 10 people and there are in the bathrooms only! Imagine cameras and phones,... More

Good: staff...especially host Joe who showed us around and greeted us by name every time he saw us. A nice touch. Security...tops. Pool, garden grounds, hammocks and rocking chairs are a nice touch and great for relaxing. Bad: Bar plays loud music which means patrons have to talk OVER the noise...therefore it is hard to relax in nice common areas...even... More

Dont let the "resort" fool you. This is your basic run of the mill hostel. Now, I can't speak to the private rooms because I stayed in a dorm, but this hostel boasts many qualities that it does not hold up to. First off, I booked a SIX bed female dorm room. Ended up in a 10 bed female room... More

Had no real problems with this place. It was clean and I felt safe along with all of my belongings. Cafe made yummy food and drinks and was reasonably priced. Only personal issue I had was the bed making crunching noises every time I moved. Ha! But for the price and it being a hostel, I would recommend it!
