Detailed Reviews
Even after making a very last minute booking, Errol (the head of the property) did everything he could to make sure I felt completely taken care of. Not only is he super friendly and absolutely focused on making sure every part of your stay is exactly what you need, he is also incredibly responsive to questions on WhatsApp whenever you might have them.
The rooms are very simple (a couple of beds, some storage, a fridge, etc.), but they're all very well taken care of, and very "Fortuna". This is not "just another hotel" with the same furnishings and soulless decorations, this is the quintessential space to relax and feel like you're *IN* Costa Rica. And being less than a 10 minute walk from downtown Fortuna is even better.

The room and bathroom were fairly basic but were clean and comfortable. It was nice to have a patio area just outside and good to be able to park hire car easily. The best bit of this hotel was the pool, which our son loved. There was also a kitchen you could use but we didn't, there was a fridge in the room which was helpful. The location is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of La Fortuna which was fine for us.

I stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend and we loved the place. We really appreciated that it was a little ways out of La Fortuna which meant that we had a nice walk prior to and after all our meals! There is no restaurant at the hotel but there is a kitchen that we didn't use because we were happy to walk into town regardless of the rain. It was a 10 min walk and apparently it is easy to get a taxi for $2/ride. The rooms are big and spacious with, true to Latin American form, way too many beds. Ours had 3, but we enjoyed having many pillows so it was alright. The rooms also had a mini fridge so we had a place to store water and snacks. The receptionist and staff were all very pleasant and got ahold of a local driver who makes daily trips around the volcano so instead of playing $20-30 (one way) to go to a hot spring, we paid $4 each (one way) and went to the free hot spring which was under a bridge and not unlike Eden. Not recommended for small children though as the river is quite strong in places. Overall, we had a wonderful stay.

My daughters and I stayed here for 6 nights! Loved this place. Felt like home away from home! Very friendly owners and very accommodating! It was my daughters birthday when we arrived and I had let the hotel know when we booked! To our surprise when we walked into the room there was a cake and balloons waiting for us! My daughter loved it and the cake was delicious! Thank you for making her 14th birthday special! We felt like family the entire stay! They would serve coffee or tea to us if we were hanging out in the kitchen area and in the mornings breakfast was wonderful! They serves a choice of a typical meal with rice, black beans and eggs or pancakes or an omelet. No matter what you ordered it was hot and fresh and was served with a plate full of local fruit! It was close to town. Short 10 min walk slightly uphill or just 2 mins by taxi (which the hotel will gladly call for you). The cost is cheap...1000 colones or $2! I will definetly stay at this place again!

After a long day of driving, hiking, and sightseeing my wife and I stumbled upon this oasis of peace and quite.
This property was just acquired by by Tony Arce the first of November 2013. Tony and his wife have done an excellent job bringing the property up to date. Villa Fortuna is located on the east side of La Fortuna and just minutes from the volcano and Lake Arenal. The property is less than a ten minute walk to the town square, where you can find everything you need.
The rooms are large with vaulted ceilings finished with local wood. The room that I stayed in had two single beds, and a double bed. The beds were very comfortable. It had plenty of space to put your clothes, and bags for extended stays. The bathroom was very clean with plenty of light and great shower. Each room has its own private porch with locally made furniture. .
The grounds were well manicured with mature plantings. In the center of it all is a beautiful pool. A added bonus is a bamboo rancho with a kitchen for entertaining. The only thing missing was a hammock to stretch out and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Breakfast is available in the morning, with coffee, and tea service. Breakfast isn't included but cost only $5.00 per person for "comida typica".
If you want a place to watch television this is not the place for you. The hotel has television and cable, but no lcd's that we've seen. The rooms all have mini splits that cool off your room quickly. I like it cold, and I was very satisfied.
I was reluctant to write this review because I wanted to keep this secret to myself in fear of it getting too popular and not able to book a room. I'm doing so because I'd like to see Tony and his wife succeed in their new venture.
The added bonus of staying here is the price. We rented two rooms for less than $100.00.

Our stay here was just for one night, the place is nice, the rooms are clean and simple but comfortable, they have AC, TV, a small fridge and a safe. They have a porch with a table and 2 rocking chairs. The hotel has FREE wifi with a strong signal, really good. The towels given in the bathroom were clean but had some old stains on them (not a good look)The pool area is nice but the walls inside the pool were a bit dirty. The place has a common kitchen area which is nicely equipped with microwave, coffee maker, plates, cups, tea, sugar, rice cooker and other stuff, which is great if you just want to stay in for dinner, this common area also has hammocks and concrete benches and tables. The staff leaves at 10pm or sometimes 9pm and they close the kitchen so you want to make sure you cook or use what ever need before they leave. Staff is really friendly.
The 2 CONS are
1. NO security, there is no gate to close or anything, so the place pretty much stays open for the night...so anyone can come in and break into the cars or something, just not safe at all
2. The walls are too thin and the place is really noisy at night and early in the morning you can hear the cars going by and the people outside
FYI after check out you must leave the property, if you stay in the pool you will be charged a fee...

We stayed here 5 nights in January 2015. It is a great bargain , the rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a sitting area outside your door with awesome rocking chairs. The owners are very helpful with setting up tours and making changes, calling cabs and directing you around town. The town is a quick walk from the hotel but a cab is $2. There is a bakery not far from the hotel where we got breakfast everyday. $4 for 2 people! The hotel no longer serves breakfast. I would definitely stay here again if in the area.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from town. They offer three breakfast options at the hotel for 5$ (rice&beans with eggs, a ham and cheese omelet and pancakes when we were there).
The rooms are clean and equipped with AC unit, TV, hot water, and mini refrigerator. The beds were very comfortable. However, the walls are very thin, so loud neighbors woke us up fairly early each morning.
The staff was incredibly helpful. They were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Stayed here for 4 nights and I cannot speak more highly of a great place to stay. It is immaculately clean, has great grounds with tremendous bird life and the owners are helpful and friendly. There is a good pool and a kitchen where you can cook if you want to do so. It is only a 10 min walk into town or $2 by taxi. There is a supermarket 100 Metres away. Prices to stay are very good and help and advice is available for booking on-going travel or tours.

This is a very pleasant place to stay with beautiful gardens. It has a strong feeling of nature with birds landing on nearby trees and frogs all around croaking away. The staff are extremely friendly and the rooms clean and tidy. For some it may be a little out of town - being a 10 minute walk from the village - but we found a nice restaurant around the corner to eat and there is also a supermarket close by. You can also prepare your own meals in the kitchen which is great if you are on a tight budget. Probably the hotel is best for those who have their own car. The breakfast was generous and only cost $5.00. The wifi didn't work very well - at least not for me. Our main regret is that we only stayed one night and didn't have time to enjoy the swimming pool and other amenities.
