I would definitely recommend this hotel alone for the setting; the most incredible views and loads of trails to hike within the grounds. The road to the hotel was bumpy, need a 4x4 car. You were a little isolated for the evenings, so rely on the hotel restaurant and bar-food ok, but nothing special. We got a takeaway pizza one... More

The view on the terrace is outstanding - arrive for a sunset beer as the sun sets over Lake Arenal and it's breath taking.. The room was large, well equipped and clean. The facilities in the grounds great for everyone - pool, games room (though it's a long walk back to reception to get anything you'd need to play with... More

For me this hotel was just what I needed. A peaceful and restorative holiday. The views around the hotel are amazing and there are so many different hikes that you could spend days at the hotel just exploring. I love photography and spent a lot of time taking photos. I was lucky enough to see coatis, an anteater, squealer monkeys,... More

"Whatever you do, get up early and sit on the porch and listen forest come to life. AMAZING!" It is complete tranquility. It is best to travel to the hotel during the day, because there is a little signage and no street lights. You there is things you can see during the day. Also, if you are not a nature... More

Friends told us to go here and it did not disappoint! It could be all about the view, but accommodations were nice and you never need to leave the property. Hiking trails, waterfalls, bridges and lots of animals! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing location! *first timers: no AC (like most of this area), but not needed. Buggy, don't be... More

Imagine waking up to the stunning view of a majestic volcano: that is what you get at this marvelous resort. The accommodation is more of a four star lodge, but the location right next to the Arenal, the amazing view, the lush garden and the friendly staff lift it to a five star experience. Go on the complimentary morning walk... More

If we would have stayed only one or two nights, maybe we wouldn't have gotten hung up on the boring food in the restaurant, and perhaps given a higher score. But seeing as we stayed longer, the food became a problem. Come for a night or two, but not longer. + Staff was super friendly + Location was great, the... More

If this hotel was in any other location it would not be worth more than $60 per night. The room was ok (we were lucky to have an amazing view on the voulcano), bathroom looked more like a slaughterhouse than a bathroom. The worst though was the food at the trap-restaurant. Breakfast was typically American, artificial selection. I asked for... More

Located within the Arenal Conservation Area and surrounded by rainforests and nature, AOL sits on a 870 acres property, which consists of 400 acres of reforestation, 270 acres of natural forest and 200 acres of cultivated land. The hotel offers 48 comfortable rooms surrounded by gardens, the majority with a direct view of the volcano and/or the forest. The 7 miles of well-maintained trails for walking, horseback riding or biking running through the property provide good opportunities to observe a variety of flora and fauna. Activities at the hotel include hikes to the waterfall or to explore Cerro Chato (an extinct volcano with a small lake in the crater), horseback riding, bicycling through the trails, enjoying a refreshing swim in our pool, or simply relaxing with a massage in our SPA. The hotel is well located to serve as a base for a variety of excursions such as: Cano Negro Nature Refuge, hot springs, Venado Caves, Canopy Tours, Arenal Hanging Bridges, Fishing, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Biking etc. It also serves as a very interesting stop before heading on to Monteverde Cloud Forest or to the beaches of the Pacific coast.
