We were so happy and impressed with the Lodge. We had a long drive from our previous location to Arenal but it was sooo worth it!! The property was incredibily beautiful and amazing. Stefan at the front desk was soo helpful and had the best...More
Our stay at one of the chalets was grand! The inactive volcano was directly across from our room. A beautiful parrot even landed on our roof and stayed awhile! The grounds were immaculate and beautiful with lovely flowers and shrubs. The complimentary breakfast was quite...More
During our trip to Costa Rica, we tried to find off the beaten path places, avoid tourism and definitely avoid the big hotel chains. This is what led me to choose the Observatory Lodge. While this was certainly off the beaten path (a few miles...More
We booked 3 nights at the Arenal Observatory Lodge in March 2013. The lodge is wonderfully rustic with simply amazing trails, wildlife and nature. Unfortunately for us, we had nothing but non-stop rain for our entire time in the Arenal area and we never got...More
The Observatory Lodge was great! We did 10 days in Costa Rica, 5 of them at the Lodge! It's about 25 minutes out of town, but well worth it. We stayed in room 29 and room 30 next to it would be perfect as well!...More

We stayed in Casona. The lodge that has 5 rooms and shares 2 bathrooms. There were2 coffee makers in the communal area with coffee packets on our room. I did make coffee in the morning before I went to breakfast. I used tap water in the dining room there was a large water cooler which we filled our water bottles that I brought along. There were also water bottles you could purchase.

The La Fortuna Waterfall is about a 30-minute drive from the lodge. If you will have a rental car, driving yourselves would be the easiest way to get there. Alternatively, a cab to the waterfall would cost around $30 each way. There are also several tour companies that offer trips to the waterfall and could pick up from the lodge if this is something you would be interested in.
We look forward to your upcoming stay and please feel free to ask any additional questions you may have.

The lodge is pretty far away from town. I think that you can to and from town by taxi. However, I'm not sure there is much reason to go to La Fortuna in the evening. The attractions of the area are nature and adventure tours, not the night life. However, if you like to be in or near a town, you should probably consider another place to stay.
