had the pleasure of staying here last week and had all of my travel inquiries in advance allayed by miguel the owner via e-mail. he was kind enough to pick up my girlfriend & i from the public bus station in la fortuna and helped organize our trip to the hot springs, the nearby waterfall (rain forced us to decide... The hotel is owned by Miguel who is very nice and helpfull. The rooms are clean, big and very nice surrounded by a jarden, a swimming pool, a barbecue. The volcano is located in front of the hotel, you can enjoy the view from the room. The waterfall is 40 minute sby foot. La Fortuna center is 5 minutes by... More

We stayed in Cerro Chato Eco Lodge in La Fortuna for three nights. It was a great time! Lodge is not far from town in a very quiet and wonderful place. Cabins are very nice! Large garden with swimming pool is very great and well-kept. Breakfast was excellent! Miguel informed us very well about tours and the tour service is... More

My son and I just returned from Costa Rica where we stayed at Miguel and Carmen's Cerro Chato Eco Lodge. While a little confusing to find at first since we entered La Fortuna the opposite direction of the instructions provided, it was actually very easy to get to and not far at all from the main road in La Fortuna.... The owner Miguel was great, and offered a number of tours you could buy directly from him, which given the notorious tour-operators of Arenal, helped us not get burned by any scams. The cabins were clean and colorful, and breakfast was delicious. They did charge a 10% surcharge if you pay with credit card for your room or activities, so... More

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during a recent trip to Costa Rica. It had been recommended by a friend and Lonely Planet. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you, but if you just need a simple, inexpensive place to sleep while exploring Arenal, this is it. Our room was clean... More

I really wanted to like this place more – the owner. Miguel is a top-notch fellow – but let’s face it: it’s not for everyone. On the plus side: it’s very inexpensive. It’s also kept very clean, something a lot of other places can’t claim. Miguel is knowledgeable and very helpful, he knows all! Just ask! I LOVED having a... More

The lodge consists of pleasant cabinas with ceiling fans and working warm water showers. The rooms are clean and quite large. Our room looked onto the Arenal Volcano, which, as usual, was covered in clouds. The breakfasts were good typical Tico style - scrambled eggs, fruit, juice, and coffee. The price was very reasonable. The lodge backs onto a forested... More

This hotel is for super budget minded travelers. Owners do not intend to provide much service and you feel it right away. It is basically a hostel that also tries to capture more mature travelers. As soon as I layed on the matress I felt sharp things - I pulled up the sheet and saw that the mattress has worn... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located at the base of the Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica (2.5 kms. from La Fortuna, on the road to Catarata Rio's Fortuna and only 15minutes by car from Tabacon's Hot Springs) with a spectacular view of the southeast side of the volcano, we have the advantage of being at a slightly higher altitude than La Fortuna, thus cooler. Also, we are off the main road enough to avoid the sound of grinding gears that are audible from almost all other hotels. The rooms are very spacious (32m2) with 1 double and 1 single bed, a large private bath with hot water, screened windows, ceiling fans, verandas with table and chairs, and landscaped grounds abundant with tropical flowers and birds. Full breakfast, available lunches, horse rental, laundry, internet service and secure parking lot. ... more   less
