My husband and I stayed for 5 days, and saw wonderful birds, both at the lodge and on daily birding trips with Luis. It is a beautiful place, with great staff ( we loved Bridget and her sense of humor), and the food was excellent. Our room was extremely comfortable, and right off the veranda, so we had fabulous views...

I would like to start by qualifying the superlatives laid down here, by saying that I am a an international tour leader who visits Costa Rica, and other countries, regularly during the course of my job as a professional bird guide. I live in Ecuador but travel all over the world each year in the pursuit of birds. This was...

Since you are an international tour leader who visits Costa Rica and other countries, regularly as a professional bird guide, this was for me by far the best review I have had the honor to receive for Rancho Naturalista. Your picturesque way of explaining about Rancho brings vivid detail as clear as a picture to my mind. The scenic mountains,...

The best birding experience I could imagine. The majestic setting in the Caribbean foothills, great food, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and the hummingbirds and Aracari are on the porches with you! The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We had a personal guide for all four days who helped us identify the innumerable species of birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians and...

My wife, our 7-year old daughter, and myself spent 3 nights at the lodge. The birding (and mothing) was fantastic, the food superb, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable as well. I particularly enjoyed the fantastic diversity of moths that came nightly to the mercury vapor light and sheet. I spent an hour or...

Stayed here for 2 nights, but wish it had been 2 weeks! From the moment we arrived, Lisa made us feel at home. Harry, our guide for the next 2 days, helped us with our bags. We were in room 1, upstairs with a huge balcony overlooking the hummingbird feeder action. The room itself was HUGE and well equipped! The...

This is a great place to enjoy birding and hiking in the rain forest. My room (#10), which is separate from the main building, was quiet--although I know that some of the rooms in the main building, adjacent to the terrace, can be less so. The food was stellar: Lots of fresh produce, and terrific salads! [I was craving greens...
